We selected this establishment for a 4-night stay in Cairns based on the configuration of the 2-bedroom apartment, the unit's location and budget considerations. It consisted of a 1-bedroom apartment with a connecting door to a studio room. This meant that each portion had its own toilet and bathing facilities and that was essential in our case.
While this was certainly budget accommodation with many areas, such as missing drawer handles etc, needing attention it was large, fully furnished and reasonably comfortable. Certainly the beds provided restful sleep. The bathroom was compact and fully featured.
The outdoor pool and BBQ area was clad in Astroturf and was clean with new pool furniture and a modern gas BBQ. This provided another meal preparation area and we used the BBQ on several nights. The location is great with a few minutes walking distance to a large variety of fast food outlets, a small supermarket and a licensed bottle shop. The Cairns Hospital was only two blocks away and rapid access to the airport was possible via Lake Street.
While Brian S was helpful with explanations and suggestions the registry area was often closed with access to service via a phone. We ensured that we did not leave our keys behind when going out because there was an advertised charge of $25 to call for a person to attend and open the apartment door.
Underground parking was an asset in a climate where high day temperatures are common. Care was required in driving in and out of one area where loaded vehicles (luggage and passengers) bottomed out. Despite this inconvenience available parking space under cover was good.
Certainly the Tariff at the Grosvenor in Cairns is at the lower end of charges for apartments in Cairns. If a tight budget is a major criterion when booking accommodation this establishment does provide some advantages over more expensive options.
The owners were always available and more than helpful. We arrived a day early and they juggled their rooms to accommodate us. Highly recommend.
