Sprout has changed. We used to have memorable visits. We had snails . The vol au vent cases were burnt and overpowered the snail. I had barrumumdi which was spoilt by the lime and champagne sauce. I asked the waiter what the yellow spread was under the fish and he couldn't understand me. apple and fig tart was too Sweet
what you read on the menu sounds better than what appears

A quaint French restaurant with a traditional French menu with a great selection of tasty foods inside an old Brisbane suburban local set of shops. We dined with friends and enjoyed the food and atmosphere. Well worth a visit.

A party of six of us went to Sprout for a birthday dinner. The birthday girl is a coeliac (cannot eat gluten) so this restaurant seemed ideal with most of the items being marked on the menu as gluten free (GF). We decided on the $55 entree and main option.

Well, when her entree came out it was atop a 'waffle' (which was mentioned in the menu, but was marked as GF). When she asked the waiter if it was actually gluten free he came back from the kitchen saying 'there's a little bit of flour in it'.

Back it went to the kitchen for replacement by a more suitable meal.

Next she ordered the lamb for main. Again, it was marked gluten free on the menu, again, it comes out with pastry in the meal.

Apart from that the food was good, I would not say memorable. I had spanner crab panna cotta for entree and some kind of scallop mornay for main. The mushroom sides ($10 extra) were good. The green vegetable sides ($10 extra) come out plain - steamed. The corkage is $5 per person which added up to $20 for the people who had wine. Not sure why it was that much because the waiter did not open the champagne or wine that we brought with us, nor did he pour it.

I think the 'gluten free' mix up soured the experience for us and we will not return.

The mixed reviews this restaurant has received are quite peculiar and the very opposite of our experience. We celebrated our wedding anniversary here and the food was superb. The service was quick and attentive and friendly. The foie gras was delicious as was my pork belly and the spouse's barramundi. The sides were generous and cooked to perfection. The desserts were equally good and the fixed price for 3 courses not inexpensive but not over the top either. In fact the fixed price and BYO wine means no bill shocks. The review differences confound us. Either Sprout has had a rush of precious diners or the guests upset the staff - never wise in a French restaurant. Maybe they had a mad waiter who has moved on. Who knows. We had a lovely night with beautiful food and good friendly service. We will definitely go back.

Just celebrated a birthday in a party of 4 on a busy Saturday night - very nervous indeed when we arrived to find a table set for about 20 right next to us - we'd better order early!

We needn't have been concerned - the service was prompt, the corks on some 1996 wines provided challenges which were overcome - the food arrived promptly and was unanimously voted as being excellent.

As others have remarked - being BYO drives down the total meal price, so this is indeed a great value restaurant.
