I went to the Melbourne Cup function here in 2012. It was touted as having a 3 hour drink package which they managed by making it extremely difficult to get a drink. The service by the staff was good, however the maitre'd was extremely rude an unhelpful when we challenged her about the drinks package. She really spoilt the day. The food was good for a function but in all, we felt quite ripped off by the event. I imagine going there for dinner is fine, but they struggle to impress with functions.

Sorry I don't get the negative comments, I took clients there for luch yesterday. The food was superb, the service excellent and the wine list extensive.
The prices are pretty much consistent with what you expect for this level of restaurant. I had some of the best oysters I have had in years.
I have not been here for years and years and was surprised that the decor is no longer early 80s but modern and uncluttered.
Ignore the negatives and try this place again, you wont be disappointed

Without doubt this would have to be one of the best seafood restaurants i have ever been to and unfortunately the prices reflect this, if you want to impress someone and don't mind parting with your cash this is the place to go.

We were personally looked after by John Gambaro and his staff. The food was wonderful, the cellar amazing and the genuine "connection" with the staff was warming.

We went for our work Christmas lunch and were expecting great things with the restaurant having received so many awards. What a disappointment. It was hard to find the TINY oysters amonst the bacon and tomato sauce of what was supposed to be Oysters Kilpatrick. Crab mornay was like a nice cheese sauce. Chips OK but fairly cold. For the prices charged it was a huge disappointment and I certainly won't be going back.
