“Perfect city centre location”
Reviewed September 3, 2013

On the corner of Queen and Edward streets this place is perfect for girls weekends that include shopping. We had a 2 bedroom apartment, they are spacious very comfortable and clean at a good price. The rooms are secure, need key card for lift and corridors to get to your rooms. The rooms are not serviced, but you have an in-room washing machine and dryer, full kitchen facilities, lounge and dinning table. You can hear a little street noise, we were on the 8th floor.

My husband & I recently stayed here with friends for 3 nights & had a fantastic time...the hotel is in a perfect location, queen street mall is basically right at the door for restaurants & plenty of shopping & central station is a few minutes walk away...it is only a short walk to eagle street pier where you have an array of restaurants to choose from & we also caught the free city ferry from here to go over to southbank which is a really pretty area to visit...
We stayed in a 2 bedroom apartment & it was very spacious & had everything that we needed including a laundry & 2 bathrooms which is good when 2 couples are travelling together...all areas of the apartment were clean & tidy& all staff were very friendly & extremely helpful...
I would thoroughly recommend this hotel to anyone wanting to stay in the Brisbane CBD,we will definitely stay here when we next return to Brisbane.

Have stayed here on a number of occasions. Really cannot fault it with the location opposite the Queen St Mall and close to everything else in the CBD. Marble bathrooms and kitchen are certainly befitting of the three bedroom luxury apartment while the bedrooms are of a very generous size. Smaller rooms are also well appointed and comfortable. Highly recommended for up to 6 people. Pool is nice on a hot day and the gym is also adequate.

We really like that the apartments are right in the heart of the CBD. Train station, Shopping, Eagle St Pier dining and casino are all an easy stroll away. The apartments are huge (we've stayed in one and two bed rooms) and self contained if you're staying for a few days. I've always found them to be clean and well maintained. If there is one downside, it's access to reception to check in if you're driving. It is on the busy Edward St/Queen St intersection and parking is limited to collect a card for the hotel parking entrance located on the next block. If you're on your own, it can be tricky to park nearby otherwise drop you car buddy a do a lap around the block. No biggie, just something to be mindful of. For a CBD hotel, it's reasonably quiet and worth a stay if you want to be handy to everything.

My family and I have stayed at MacArthur Chambers several times before and have always enjoyed it, especially it location: smack bang in the centre of the CBD. I'm not sure if they are under new management but this time our experience was very different. Firstly, the state of the room was terrible. The beds looked made on top but when you pulled the cover down it was clear they hadn't been made at all: creased, bunched up sheets and pubic hairs throughout. There was also a clump of hairs on the carpet beside the bed. There was a dirty face washer clumped in a corner of one of the bathroom cupboards. Clearly the beds and couches hadn't been vacuumed under in a while: all kinds of rubbish and debris under them. Mould and algae in the sink holes. And old opened cereal boxes were still in the kitchen cupboards. Just appalling. Secondly, in 34 degree sweltering Brisbane summer heat, the air conditioner would not go below 27 degrees. We called the handy man up to look at it. And he spun some story about it being the "ambient temperature" what a load of rubbish! We have previously on other stays had the room at a lovely cool 19 degrees. Plus the display on the air Von control panel has a locked symbol that you can't get rid of so they obviously have it set at an uncomfortable level that saves them money. Thirdly, their spa was broken and so was the disabked lift that takes you to the pool so my disabled mother had to walk up two flight of stairs every time she wanted to cool off in the pool and escape the sweltering apartment heat. To top it all off, the staff seem completely disinterested and unhelpful when I have brought these issues up with them. The face washer and old cereal boxes were removed but the place wasn't cleaned. They didn't even offer to clean it.
It's such a shame because this has always been our favourite place to stay. The location is 2nd to none. But next time we won't be back.

Good stuff:
Well located in the Brisbane CBD, next to Queen St Mall.
Spacious 2 bdrm apartment (good size for two adults and 2 kids).
Good parking facilities under hotel building.
Clean tidy, with contempary fit out.
Friendly staff.
Wonderful heritage building with interesting history.

Not great:
Limited reception hours.
Basic services (which we expected) so not suitable for someone looking for room service etc.
Pool was small and not heated.
Extra towels would be good, we had 4 for 4 people
