“How libraries should be”
Reviewed May 6, 2013

This library is a place for people to explore and to grow. Plenty of activities for the kids. Tons of exhibitions and things to do. Central location. And it's free.

“Excellent Artist Book Collection”
Reviewed May 5, 2013

SLQ have an excellent and extensive collection of Artist Books in all shapes and formats from codex forms to sculptural objects. You can phone ahead and arrange an appointment to see a choice of this interesting art form. They do presentations for individuals as well as large groups. Great public service and a great way to see more of the library building. There are also gallery spaces to view with changing exhibitions. You may be asked to check your bag at the security counter on the first floor while viewing the collections. SLQ also have an interesting programme of lectures, seminars and events throughout the year on varied subjects - I'd suggest checking out their website before heading in for the day. SLQ is neatly placed right in the heart of the Brisbane arts precinct, sandwiched neatly between QAG and GoMA. Could spend an entire day wandering around these galleries. Also a short stroll to all that Southbank has to offer. Easily accessible by bus, train or car. Plenty of parking available at GoMA, QAG or Southbank for an all day/evening flat rate of $15 (carparks usually close around midnight).

“A friendly and intelligent conduit to another world”
Reviewed April 30, 2013

At the time of our visit, there was a writer's festival at the State Library of Queensland. Attending some of the events exposed us to some thought provoking presentations. There were an extensive variety of topics starting with Indigenous Australia heritage and culture to global shift in political viewpoints. The wonderful aspect of these presentations is that they were made relevant to you. Importantly, some visitors from overseas in Brisbane expressed their liking of Brisbane but wondered where the Aboriginal People were. The State Library presents weekly forums of Aboriginal Affairs presented by Aboriginal People to which anybody is welcome. Memories of visiting Brisbane will always have the State Library of Queensland, beautifully located by the Brisbane River, front and centre in our minds.

“A Recent Upgrade”
Reviewed April 29, 2013

The State Library of QLD was recently upgraded, say 3 years ago or so. It is not a fully modern and fully resourced public treasure. It is a genuinely fantastic library.

“Great facility”
Reviewed April 28, 2013

I am really impressed by the facilities on the South Bank. The SLQ has wifi available all over the place, an impressive reference library, and plenty of different spaces to enjoy. A lot of good courses run from here, especially by Queensland Writers Centre. A great resource. I hope it survives Mr Newman's axe.
