“What a great stay!”
Reviewed December 29, 2012

We had a great stay at the Wellington Apartment Hotel over the Christmas week, which is offpeak for them, as they are a corporate hotel.
The location was so central - turn right out of Wellington Road to go across the Story Bridge and either into the city or to the northern suburbs, or right to go to Bulimba, etc.
A great bar and bistro across the road at the Shaftston Hotel, a Cellarbrations bottle store and an excellent IGA supermarket - all within a few minutes walk of the Wellington Apartment Hotel.
Paul and Maria are great, nothing is too much trouble for them and they are so welcoming.
The room we stayed in was a great size with cooking facilities and a full sized fridge-freezer with well stocked mini bar. We were at the rear of the property with views over Brisbane city, which were spectacular at night with all of the lights.
Would happily recommend the Wellington Apartment Hotel to anyone and we will stay again ourselves next time we're in Brisbane.
Thanks Paul and Maria for such a wonderful stay!

Room Tip: The rooms at the rear of the property are probably the best, as they are away from the road and the...

I stayed at the Wellington Apartment Hotel on business for a night back in October.
The location is a bit out of the way if you're planning to spend time in the city. Taxi's around Brisbane are cheap if you don't have a car (and reception is happy to call them for you), so the location isn't too bad. Great location if you're visiting Princess Alexandra Hospital though!

The staff are great and there are only a few rooms, so the vibe is friendly. I caused a bit of confusion by ordering a take away pizza instead of the expensive room service, but no one seemed too upset... I can't comment on the bar or the hotel restaurant, but I can confirm that Pizza Capers happily delivers ;)

The rooms are big with kitchenettes, comfy beds, TV, complimentary Wi-Fi (get password from reception) and mini bar. The bathroom is clean with an in-bath shower. Strangely the bath tap doesn't work... maybe a water saving tactic to turn guests off using the tub?

I will definitely stay again. Very practical hotel for work trips.

We purposefully booked somewhere within walking distance of the Gabba as we were going to the cricket. The Wellington certainly fitted the bill for this.

It's not quite what I expected from the photos on their website. We stayed for two night in a queen room with some basic kitchen facilities, although we didn't use them. We had specifically requested a city view room at the back which was quiet and the balcony had quite a nice view. However, the bed was very uncomfortable and soft and my husband and I kept rolling into the middle.

Breakfast was included in the room price. I expected the normal help yourself buffet, but they really made it complicated by taking your order and telling you that you could have one of this and one of that but not certain combinations. Portions were pretty small too. The second day, the water glasses on the table were filthy.

One night we caught the ferry to South Bank as the ferry wharf was quite close and we ate over the road at the pub the other night which was pretty good value.

One positive was that he staff were very friendly and helpful.

It was OK for a short stay if you wanted to go to the Gabba, but otherwise stay closer to the city.

PS Unless you have a Go card, the ferry is expensive.

Room Tip: Ask for a city view room at the back as it's much quieter.

My stay was very brief - just overnight. Check in was fast, friendly & simple. I did not try the food as was too tired & left too early but breakfast seemed reasonable when I looked. Room was very comfortable & clean (Queen Studio City View for $170. No cheaper rooms available at the time of booking) & they even had peppermint tea, which is just what I was after. Kitchen has everything you need if you wanted to cook though I didn't look too closely. Nice evening view across some houses & trees to the city. Be careful with the bathroom, as the sign says, it steams up & can set off the fire alarm. I checked out early (6.20am) & it was very fast & again, friendly.

Room Tip: Choose the city view & sit out on a warm evening on the balcony & enjoy.

We went during the weekend of a big rugby match in Brisbane, and ended up putting up here due to a lack of budget accommodation options in the city. There seems to be a dearth of mid-tier options in the city. Wellington Apts is one of the few, good esp. if you drive.

We were allocated a spacious room at the back of the building which balcony oversees the tiny pool and has partial view of the city centre. It has a well-equipped kitchenette for those who want to cook. I wished they will replace the mama-bear bed (too soft) and its rusted electrical kettle. But overall it is a well-run and clean place, and decent value. The owners and reception desk are also very helpful and attentive. Note that the rooms are not maintained daily during stay, only when you request to.

Our main problem is with its proximity to public transport. There are restaurants and a good supermarket nearby. But sightseeing is troublesome if you don't feel like forking out A$5.20 per pax one-way to take a CityCat to zigzag into city on the river. The free CityHopper is quite a walk away (20min), and places of interest in Brisbane further. Bus service is almost non-existent.

But if proximity to the city is not an issue or if you are willing to fork out for taxi or ferry rides, Wellington Apartments is a well-run and decent value option in a quiet neighbourhood, esp. when prices at other places hike during busy traveller seasons.

Room Tip: Like others share, ask for a room at the back where it is quieter.

We found our rooms to be clean and well arranged for our family needs. Great location. Close to the city, ferry, Gabba and Kangaroo Point. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. We booked a table for breakfast and we were delighted with the five star breakfast served to us by welcoming staff who provided the many varieties requested by our family members. The underground car park was very convenient. We would certainly use these apartments on our next visit to Brisbane.

The location was excellent as we were close to good resturants and cafe's and only a cheap taxi ride away. The Gabba is just up the road which would be perfect if you were planning to attend a match. The hotel was tired and I thought the photos on the website were a bit misleading. It could do with a bit of a revamp. Staff were helpful and we really appreciated the free WiFi and parking but on the whole I was expecting more. Comfortable stay though.
