“Good food, fantastic service. Pitty about the location!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 11, 2013

I visited this restaurant in July through friends who had been repeat customers.

My initial impression of the location was that it was a bit run down. The aged shopping complex wasn't particularly inviting. But the shop stood out both in its presentation and food offering. There were only takeaway type restaurants in the complex with Malaysian Flava being the only real dining restaurant available.
I was greeted quickly by staff and then seated. Staff were very attentive and provided good service. We ordered a few entrees including roti breads, spring rolls, puffs, dumplings. This was followed by some grilled chicken and beef randang mains with rice also to share.

Overall the portion sizes could be a tad greater but the value was still good! Having recently returned from Malaysia on a business trip, I could say the food was much more authentic than I anticipated! The roti was lovely, a must try and very fresh! One of the better Roti’s in Brisbane and especially on the bayside (with Roti Roll coming close). The other mains were consistently fresh tasting with a very good texture, especially the spring rolls.

Beef randang was definitely a Malaysia take, quite different from the Thai style most Australians would be accustomed to. The beef appeared slow cooked but could have been prepared better as it was slightly dry. The grilled chicken on the other hand was almost cooked to perfection. I really had no complaints about this dish and the marinade accompanied the chicken well. Nor did I have any complaints about the food as a whole!

I would recommend this Malay restaurant for locals in Wynnum Manly. $12-$14 for a main with rice or roti extra is not asking for too much in my opinion. Your local Thai restaurant will probably charge more and the food not necessarily better. The restaurants location is a shame as many wouldn’t come across it or expect a quality takeaway restaurant such as Malaysian Flava to be situated there.

With word of mouth and returned patronage, the restaurant has immense potentital to become a success in years to come.

“Interesting”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 13, 2013

4 of us visited the Malaysian Flava after purchasing a Scoopon type voucher.
This restaurant is in a little shopping centre opposite the Wynnum Manly Leagues club.
First impression is not good. The restaurant would only seat approx. 24 people and there seemed to be an unpleasant smell that covered the entire shopping centre. Not a good start!
We waited for approx 20 minutes before we got the food and it all arrived at once, Soups, entres and main courses and our table was full.
The food was delicious!
