Recently discovered New Shanghai in an out of the way corner of the food court under David Jones downstairs from the Queen Street Mall in Brisbane City.
We visited on a Sunday at lunch time and there was a queue of people about 20 long. We decided to wait as we love our dumplings and the queue suggested the food was probably worth waiting for. There is a big picture window where you can watch the kitchen staff making dumplings and noodles while you wait, which is a bit of a treat (probably not so much for them though, they work pretty hard in there!).
The decor is very pleasant on the eye with Chinese style furnishings and colours. Don't be surprised if you end up at a share table if there is only a couple of you, but you shouldn't let this put you off as the food is extremely fresh and extremely delicious.
The menu is written in both Chinese and English and has an extensive list of Chinese teas, dim sim, soup, noodles & rice. Main dishes include items such as braised pork belly, stir fried eel, shredded pork with Peking sauce, blue swimmer crab and barramundi.
There is a corkage charge of $2 and you can also get takeaway boxes for 20c if you can't fit all the delicious food in.
