“great breakfasts in a nice location”
Reviewed May 28, 2013

Unusual breakfasts featuring spanish style ingredients and a bit different than the standard offerings - although they were there as well. The haloumi, tomatoes and chutney on toasted brushetta was substanial, maybe because the usual heritage tomatoes were unavailabe.
Good sized pot of tea - plenty for 2-3 large cups for each person. One block back from the river and nice sunny outside seating area.

“Best Dinner”
Reviewed May 19, 2013

Had dinner with 3 others at Esca last Wednesday. Visiting from Adelaide and the hotel staff recommended it. The restaurant was almost full. The atlantic salmon was fantastic as was the attention by staff. Good wine from SA made the night. Love the fact that it is owned by a family who all work in the restaurant with the young chef, recently returned from working in London, coming out to speak to us. Altogether a really good experience. Will definitely return when next in Brisbane.

“Experience did not match the reviews”
Reviewed May 19, 2013 via mobile

I decided to go on a Sunday evening as the restaurant is only a 5 minute walk and the reviews were positive. The setting and decor is good however the wait staff appear to be inexperienced compared to similar restaurants and cafes. One waiter who was behind the bar lifted his shirt in full view of patrons and started scratching his body plus he was continually eating not very professional.
I ordered the tiger prawn pasta with baby squid as I did not like black pasta they suggested I changed the pasta which was appreciated. The taste was good however the prawns were over cooked the section near the head was soft while the tail section was tough and there was no baby squid. I pointed this out to the waiter who asked the chef who said they had run out of squid and decided instead to substitute with fish which was also over cooked. If I had been informed squid was not available I would have ordered an alternative meal. The desert, creme brûlée was very good. Pricing is comparable to other restaurants while the wine list while not large seem to match the meals and are also reasonably priced.
I will go again as I like to support local restaurants and if there is no improvement will not return

“Fantastic meal!!”
Reviewed May 10, 2013

Absolutely everything about our meal was fantastic......food amazing, and beautifully presented. Service was excellent and the owner was obviously passionate and proud of her restaurant and her very talented chef sons...justifiably so!! Goats cheese ravioli was amazing. Our party of five decided to share 2 desserts - chocolate parfait and a baked cheesecake, and both were exquisite. We will definitely be back, as the breakfast menu also looks delicious!!

“Great Steak”
Reviewed March 24, 2013

This is a relatively new eatery in Kangaroo Point in an established setting where at least two others have tried before. The Esca team would have to be the best. The family service is good and the food excellent with the steak being almost as good as the best I have eaten - that being at the Red Cat in New York. We have eaten there 4 times since they opened and only have a couple of complaints. On each occasion we have had the Parfait as a shared entrée and it is delicious served in a very nice container along with two small slices of toast which were not really enough to handle the very healthy serving of pate for one person let a lone two. On the second and third times we had this entree we asked for a couple of additional pieces of toast and this was delivered at no extra cost. On our most recent visit we again asked for some extra toast and we were presented with 4 extra pieces the sting in the tail this time was that we were charged an extra $5!!!!! which makes the $17 entree now a $22 entree which is a bit over the top for an extra 4 small slices of toast. The only other issue is the corkage charge for the first 3 visits the corkage charge was $8 a bottle the last time it was $10 I wonder what it will be next time we visit???? and we will.
