Description: Awarded Brisbane Times Restaurant of the Year for 2014/15, Gerard's Bistro is a critic favourite, located among James Street's stylish restaurant and retail offerings. Diners' taste buds are taken on a journey across the Middle East with Head Chef, Ben Williamson's Levantine inspired share plates. The drinks menu is an original international list, crafted to complement the bistro's flavourful food offering. Adventurous breakfasts, which stay true to the restaurant's Mediterranean roots, are available on weekends.

We chanced upon this fabulous place some weeks ago and cannot wait to go back. The food is great - perfect for sharing. The ingredients are mostly local and/or organic and the food combinations are very interesting. The Middle Eastern/North African influence is obvious and works well. The atmosphere is delilberately relaxed, the waiting staff friendly and helpful and the wine list offers a fantastic, wide range of wines from all over the world. We have attempted to return to Gerard's but have not been able to secure a table at a time that worked for us. Can't wait for our next visit though!

Innovative Moroccan and North African themed food, food was excellent. Highlights were wagyu brisket, succulent pork, goat and lamb dish with arabic (I think) name I cannot remember. From London and do not know of a Moroccan or North African themed restaurant which would deliver such a wonderful modern take on this cuisine (if anyone knows of one please let me know!). Service was very good despite change of waiting staff through the meal, knowledgeable, courteous and well advised on how menu work. Superb meal, universally loved by our party of 6.

Recent visit for lunch. Food quite good, not overly expensive. Loved the goat.
Wine quite expensive. Service extremely poor. Long delays for delivery of food. WIne waiter waxed lyrical about a spanish red, then left to get us a taste, then disappeared. Next waitress advised they had no supply of that. He appeared late in the day to apologise, saying they were short staffed.
Probably give it another go, but there are plenty of great restaurants nearby, including Bucci.

I first discovered Gerard's Bistro by chance walking through the laneways around James St. The first time the menu seemed a bit brief, or perhaps nothing grabbed my fancy and in the end it somehow seemed to fall short.

The second time around however it was excellent. Of course the atmosphere is unchanged, once again I visited for a lazy very late Sunday lunch. The staff were very friendly and very helpful. The explained the menu and the specials and made useful recommendations on quantity and choices.

The menu seems to have expanded dramatically. This time I was left struggling with what not to pick in what was always intended as a tapas style tasting menu.

Alas between the two of us we felt we could only hope to manage 4 dishes. All were excellent. The presentation was delightful and the portion sizes were spot on, at least if the intention was to share each dish between two. The high point was undoubtedly the pork belly, which whilst it looked very small on arrival at our table was cooked to perfection.

We'd have to loved to have stayed to try out dessert, but had reached a perfect, happy state of satiety and again left no wiser of what those tempting final four dessert choices may have achieved.

To cater to a large group of chattering indecisive ladies can be a task but the staff at Gerard's wrangled and cajoled our requests from us without being patronising or rude. A few special menus were requested and an additional seat requested for the table and all was handled seamlessly.
Food was a set menu, given our numbers. Pretty olive plates, housemade thyme laced bread and some spicy chicken nibbles were followed by some marinated sous vide beef brisket which was spiced to perfection, meltingly tender and juicy. It was accompanied by pretty plates of garlic yoghurt, salads of mint, coriander and flat leaf parsley and bowls of rice with cranberries and pomegranate seeds. What a feast for the eye. There were dainty petit fours of chocolate dusted hazelnuts, turkish delight and floral tasting honeycomb. Good Coffee and reasonable wine (Shaw Smith) Sav Blanc $45 make this another on my list for a second visit. Yum!
