City Sights Hop On Hop Off-Day Bus Tours

Once we knew bus was opposite post office found quite easy. Very chatty bus driver who gave us good advice regarding ticket. The tour lasted 90 plus minutes depending on traffic. We had problems with earphones for the recorded commentary which stopped and started but we got the gist of what the history of the City was about. we choose to remain on the bus for the full tour and found areas that we will return to at a later date. When visiting a new city we always use the tour bus as it gives you a good feel for the area and this did not disappoint.

I had 2 weeks of work in Brisbane and wanted some fun stuff to do during my evenings and weekends. I normally don't use these services, but decided to give this one a try. I had a hard time finding the post office bus stop (I was 1 block too far east) but I eventually found it, bought a ticket and started the tour.

I chose to get off the bus at Southbank, spend 2 hours walking around, and caught one of the next buses.

This was money well spent.

Take this doubledecker bus tour first and get an overview of Brisbane! $40 ticket is good for 24 hours (reduced prices for students, seniors; 48 hour options also available). Bus runs about every hour and there are a number of stops (Chinatown, General Post Office, etc.--all clearly marked). Buy your ticket from driver. We took the 90 minute city you one afternoon and the 60 minute Mt. Coot-tha tour the next morning. Stops at City Botanic Garden along the river (Mt. Coot-tha tour stops at Botanic Gardens on the way up the mountain), goes to north side of River near Science Center, Art Museum, Cultural Center. Wish we'd discovered this earlier in our stay, but enjoyed it nonetheless. The 90 minute tour has tour in 8 languages (earbuds provided); the 60 minute tour is only in English (and not doubledecker).

we struggled to find the bus stop at first but once found we thoroughly enjoyed our 90 min trip around Brisbane and suburbs, informative commentary and a stop to stretch our legs with some stunning views.

We did enjoy our tour, especially the stop at Kangaroo Point. Didn't see any 'Dragons" though. One thing we did find a bit difficult was the audio commentary always being behind. You would have passed the building of interest and then hear about it. Not a biggy really but then you would try to turn back to look at the place and you'd turn a corner. All in all we did enjoy our tour, it was a warm calm day and we had the front seats upstairs:) It was great to see more of Brisbane.
