Owner description: The Queensland Art Gallery | Gallery of Modern Art (QAGOMA) is a single institution located across two adjacent river-side buildings in the Cultural Precinct at Brisbane's South Bank. QAGOMA holds a collection of historical, modern and contemporary art, and stages a dynamic program of Australian and international exhibitions. We are home to the Children's Art Centre which collaborates on interactive artworks with leading artists from around the world, and the Australian Cinematheque, the only dedicated cinema facility in an Australian art museum. QAGOMA operates its own retail outlets and cafes and restaurants, proceeds from which support the Gallery.

“Nice art Gallery, but not to be confused with GOMA”
Reviewed March 11, 2014 via mobile

I am not a big fan of GOMA, average, so don't get confused. Go next door to QAG.
Lovely selection and collection of art. Some specific to Brisbane and Queensland, but many international pieces. Nice selection of Japanese, pieces by Degas, Picasso, Monet but many more. No a huge gallery but easy to while away an hour or two. Also nice book shop and cafe with seating outside...with the water dragon lizards, bonus!

“Wonderful place”
Reviewed March 6, 2014

Great exhibits and location, off the river. If you are staying downtown it is an easy walk or take the free ferry to the South Bank and then walk.

“Another amazing Art Gallery in Australia”
Reviewed March 1, 2014

We've visited Art Galleries in four Australian cities and all of them caused a great and positive impression for several reasons, all of them apply to Queensland Art Gallery:
They are located in excellent and very functional buildings, usually in the context of large Cultural Centres, in pleasant surroundings, easily accessible, what gave me a good notion of the importance they give to Art and Culture.
Visiting them is free of charge!
People working on these galleries were very professional, friendly and helpful.
They allow us to take pictures, without flash, of course!
Last but not least, the quality of their Art collection: besides having admirable collections of European and Asian Art, the galleries allow us to have a great experience of Australian Art and artists (those who came from other countries, adopting Australia as they new home, as well as the native ones). The space dedicated to the fascinating Aboriginal Art also deserves a mention.
In general, they are open from 10:00 to 5:00.
There is a Café, sometimes more than one, where you can rest, eat and drink something, and very attractive shops with a great variety of Art books and other kinds of souvenirs.
