Owner description: The Queensland Art Gallery | Gallery of Modern Art (QAGOMA) is a single institution located across two adjacent river-side buildings in the Cultural Precinct at Brisbane's South Bank. QAGOMA holds a collection of historical, modern and contemporary art, and stages a dynamic program of Australian and international exhibitions. We are home to the Children's Art Centre which collaborates on interactive artworks with leading artists from around the world, and the Australian Cinematheque, the only dedicated cinema facility in an Australian art museum. QAGOMA operates its own retail outlets and cafes and restaurants, proceeds from which support the Gallery.

“Rude Staff”
Reviewed July 9, 2013

On walking into the museum I was confronted by a rude staff member who said I couldn't take any drinks inside. I showed her it had not been open. I said I would like to look around & did not wish to leave my belongings with her as I was catching a plane in a couple of hours & didn't want anything misplaced. Her reply was "that's not my problem". Visiting from interstate I was shocked at the reception. She was reported! Putting that aside I enjoyed the paintings I got to see in the time I had left as I had no issues entering through the other door!

“small, well organised, mainly Australian art”
Reviewed July 9, 2013

It's not a big art gallery and unsurprisingly is mainly Australian art, but since there isn't much of that in Art Galleries outside of Australia it was very interesting. There are also a couple of rooms on European and South Asian art.

The exhibits we enjoyed most weren't the paintings but the more sculptural art like an enormous metal dinosaur style sculpture and a metal and water dandelion installation. Definitely worth a visit.

“Impressive quilts”
Reviewed June 30, 2013

Accompanied " 'er indoors" to the quilt exhibition on loan from the V&A. Descriptions/explanations made it very interesting, even for me! Who would have thought soldiers were told to make quilts instead of drinking & gambling? Incredibly old items from history in incredibly good condition, well worth a visit.

“Beautiful space”
Reviewed June 25, 2013

Lovely shaded restaurants, excellent exhibitions, reflecting pool, very good shop with great specials on previous catalogues, friendly helpful staff - an excellent way to while away a few hours in the superb arts district of South Brisbane. Join the Gallery as a member. Well worth it..
