Owner description: The Queensland Art Gallery | Gallery of Modern Art (QAGOMA) is a single institution located across two adjacent river-side buildings in the Cultural Precinct at Brisbane's South Bank. QAGOMA holds a collection of historical, modern and contemporary art, and stages a dynamic program of Australian and international exhibitions. We are home to the Children's Art Centre which collaborates on interactive artworks with leading artists from around the world, and the Australian Cinematheque, the only dedicated cinema facility in an Australian art museum. QAGOMA operates its own retail outlets and cafes and restaurants, proceeds from which support the Gallery.

“Broad Church Art Museum”
Reviewed February 10, 2013

Interesting exhibits of Australian and international art, spanning historical through to Modern and Contemporary Art. Well organised and in fairly interesting buildings and in proximity to several other museums and the Southbank complex. As such, a lot to see and a very good way to spend the day (or days). As to content, generally engaging and well curated, but kind of wished for something a bit more challenging at times.

A good mix and a very interesting way to spend a day.

Cafes not bad (the best seems to open on to the sculpture terrace).

Tip: if driving, use the car-parks near the Southbank shops as they seem a lot cheaper than parking under places like the convention centre.

I liked the furniture pieces throughout the gallery rooms. Good selection of art and nice atmosphere.

“Great selection”
Reviewed February 8, 2013

Part of a wonderful complex of museums and galleries on the river. The Science Museum is great for adults and kids. The Art gallery is cool in terms of temperature and cool in the contents and design. Well worth a couple of hours. The rest of the complex will fill at least a full half day.

“Most enjoyable”
Reviewed February 3, 2013

Not great art gallery people but we really enjoyed our visit. It is a lovely space and the cafe and garden area and water features are delightful. It was also great to wander around without large crowds and see the works of some well known names in Australian art.

Apart from the excellent art displayed here - the gallery is an architectural masterpiece with lovely places to sit outside and in.
A short walk takes you from the top of the mall across the bridge to the gallery. Just another wonderful site to see in Brisbane.
