“Great little theatre”
Reviewed July 14, 2012

We went to see 'Avenue Q' at the theatre. They put on a very good production. The theatre is quite small, old and quaint. The interior looks quite old, but that is part of its charm. Definitely worth a visit. The Tibetan Kitchen next door is good for a pre-show dinner.

We have seen a number of very good shows here. Parking is quite easy in the basement.

“Great little hole in the wall”
Reviewed May 20, 2012

I've been to this theatre on a few occasions now. Most recently to see "Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead". The theatre itself is quite small and old, actually heritage listed. There aren't many seats, and the seating that is available is in the wood and velvet style long gone. The stage is also quite small. That all being said, the accoustics are wonderful for such a small theatre and the size makes it impossible to have bad seats. The staff are as fun and quirky as the shows they put on and the fact that it's staffed by volunteers makes it that much more friendly and personal. The various shows range from the sublime like the upcoming "Boys Next Door" to the ridiculously hilarious like "Avenue Q". There is a small snack / bar facility and all profits are put straight back into the theatre as it is not government funded. However, there is no objection to bringing your own. Often the regulars will even share a bite with you as they sit and chat before a show. This is a very casual place, dressing up is not required and indeed, you would probably look a bit out of place. The theatre is conveniently located within easy walking distance of Roma St station, which has the added bonus of being able to grab a bite from any of the numerous excellent restaurants and pubs nearby. Tickets will rarely exceed $30 for an adult and are often much cheaper. For some of the best amatuer productions, you can't go past the Brisbane Arts Theatre for a splendid night's entertainment.

“Quaint and homely”
Reviewed May 19, 2012

This is a very small theatre just up the road from Paddington, there's great 4 hour parking meters out the front. It's a very old building but the seats inside are very comfortable, like old armchairs and due to it's size it wouldn't matter where you sat you would get a great view, it's very intimate and definitely worth going to, we saw a children's show which the kids loved, haven't seen anything else there. Toilets are clean, they have ice creams etc on sale. They could do with a few more chairs in the entry area and a bit of TLC with the garden but given that they are probably run by volunteers perhaps this is a little harsh. Ticket prices very reasonable.
