I travel to Brisbane several times a year to visit family and friends and this was my first stay at Milton Motel Apartments. The location attracted me first, being close to public transport and not far from my daughter's home.
I booked through wotif without reading any reviews. I am so glad I didn't read reviews beforehand because I would never have stayed there based on the far from rosy picture painted by said reviews.
I found David, the manager, to be helpful and personable and the apartment was ideal for my needs. Yes, there was noise from the trains but any google map search would have indicated that this might be the case - I certainly wasn't surprised.
The rates were very reasonable, and I would have no hesitation in recommending Milton Motel Apartments for cheap, cheerful, convenient accommodation. I shall certainly stay there again.

We stayed here for 2 nights with our 2 young children and definitely will NOT be returning. We didn't encounter any 'Basil' like experiences that others mention - in fact the manager (David) who we dealt with was friendly and quickly addressed our issues to the best of his ability. The problem was our room. We had a cramped 2 bedroom apartment, which felt dirty as soon as I walked inside. We were self catering as we have young children, however the kitchen was not at all up to scratch - in fact the cleaners had forgotten to clean it! There was still a bowl of half cooked food in the microwave, the stovetop was covered in grease and the fridge hadn't been cleaned either. The decor was dated, the lighting was dim and the bathroom was dirty. The Manager rectified the cleanliness issues as promptly as he could, which included getting cleaners to come through the next morning (when we were out). However the cleaners left every single door and window wide open - no security screens and we had all our luggage inside!!! The location might be convenient however nothing else was up to scratch. Will not be returning.

We had long planned to stay at these apartments for our daughter's wedding and had made a booking in early May for a July stay.
We had previously stayed there and found the location and amenities first rate and affordable.
One week before flying to Brisbane, the manager phoned and told us that we no longer had a booking; without providing a credible excuse.
I believe that the rooms were re-sold for a higher yield due to heavy demand and we were left in a very difficult position due to it being such an important event.
They have acted in an extremely unprofessional manner and caused a great deal of distress.

I booked this motel via Wotif, on the basis of price and location to the CBD. I had read the reviews after booking and prior to arrival, and was a little concerned. I was to meet a friend travelling over from NZ and we were to stay for 2 nights. Unfortunatly due to ash cloud, and Jetstar cancelling flights my friend did not arrive for the time booked. I feel I was very fortunate not to have encountered "Basil" during my stay there, he was away, and the Motel had a very pleasant "fill in". I was more than happy with the unit I was in, the kitchen facilities (not that I used them) were very good, especially for families, I found the bed comfortable, I had a bedside lamp, T.V. channels all working, and pretty much all I needed (with the exception of coffee/sugar/milk) but the "fill in manager" was able to assist there. The room overall was very clean, and the only real critism I have over this, is the inside door of the toilet/shower/ area was very dirty, and the balcony walls could have been a lot cleaner, but outside areas well, its maybe asking a bit much.. I was suprised to see a washing machine/tub and dryer in the bathroom area, and these additions made that area very cramped, but for families staying for a longer period, I did think this served a purpose. The balcony had a clothes airer to dry clothes on also. The phone could have been more user friendly, as it ended up being "the problem" with our infamous star "basil". In this day and age surely portable phones are important in motels, so as you are not hanging on the end of a cord.. and wasting valuable time, being stuck in a space that the length of cord allows. Now, having departed from the motel 4 days ago, I was very suprised to get a phone call at my place of employment from David thismorning... requesting my credit card details for "confirmation" , I mentioned that the motel was pre paid via Wotif, but he still insisted I give him my card details.... As it turned out I didnt have my C/C on me, and told him this, and I then started to think, what is this.....very dodgy stuff. "Basil" then informed me that I owed $15.00 in phone calls, once again, Im thinking, what the hell.....I was trying to phone Jetstar to change flight bookings, but over the weekend the line was engaged 99% of the time. I recall speaking to an operater twice, basil informed me I had made 10 calls, @ $1.50. This was utter lies, and I thank God I still have a good memory. On querying this number of calls with him, he then checked, and came back with only 2 calls made.....Even then I am dubious as to if the motel was charged, as Jetstar has a free call number, and how could a telecommunication account be so readily available, 4 days after....So viewers, all in all, I enjoyed my stay at this Motel, the train noise was acceptable, the room was all I required for the time there, overall the motel was clean, and certainly great for a family, but I have to say now, thank God the infamous "basil" wasnt there, and for future viewers/possible guests DO NOT GIVE OUT YOUR CREDIT CARD DETAILS to this man, when there is no need to. Every bank in N.Z./AUZ and no doubt the world would endorse this...

We arrived at this motel this evening due to a meeting a few blocks away, it was booked by our corporate travel agent about 3-4 weeks ago and we planned to stay 2 nights. There were 3 of us booked into 3 apartments. Of ocurse, the motel website looks fine :)

We arrived off a flight from Sydney and to be honest we were feeling apprehensive when we arrived in the lobby. It looked shabby and grubby with a cardboard box of DVDs, mismatched old furniture and a man at the desk with a pile of messy papers, keys etc. A dubious looking pair of characters (quite dirty & dishevelled) was checking in in front of us and actually the man behind the counter didnt look much better.

We explained who we were and he said he had no record of our booking, made some disparaging comments about travel agents, grunted a bit and acted generally grumpy. When we produced our documentation he said we were lucky we had rooms, fished three sets of keys from the big pile on the desk and told us to go across the road. We were not feeling good about this but hopeful the rooms would be better.

Sadly, no. Three rooms on three different floors with no lift but a rabbit warren of stairs (fire risk?). The rooms were basically furnished and could have been quite ok- the block looked relatively new- but all three rooms were DIRTY. Exactly as everyone else has said - hair, grime, sticky floors, food scraps on the bench, unidentified stains and cigarette burns. They smelt musty and looked grubby. At that point a train came barrelling past the bedroom window and sealed the deal for us. We did not stay long enough to take any pictures, my two colleagues and I were desparate to wash our hands and get out of there.

We left immediately and after some insults from the manager (who said it was not dirty and our complaint was just a "feeble excuse") we left. I believe he will charge us for one night- to be honest we didnt care. We got a taxi to the first place we rang (Metro Mill Tower motel which is lovely and fitted us straight in - another review to come) and chalked it up to experience.

For reference - I have never rejected a hotel room in my travels, this was a first for me!My main mistake- I broke my cardinal rule of checking tripadvisor first!!

Flew in to Brisbane for the State of Origin game 1. Party of 4 (1 couple + 2 male adults) We had a 4 night booking for a 1 double, 2 single bed unit, booked and payed for 2 months in advance.

So when we turn up to check in at 2.10 pm, the manager advised that he just let out the last of his 1double + 2 single units. I pointed out to him that we had booked and payed 2 months in advance for a double + 2 single, and that as booking was accepted and payed in full 2 months prior, then he should supply what was agreed to. His response was that just because you book something doesn't guarantee that that is what you will get when you turn up, especially when we were only paying $155 a night! What the... ? He said all he had was a double + double unit. So He expected 2 men to sleep in the same bed? (they were friends, but not THAT friendly). He showed us the double + double room and said he could supply a trundle bed as well. Or if we wanted, he would fully refund and we could find somewhere else to stay and wished us ' good luck with that!' I would have taken the offer of refund and gone somewhere else if it wasn't the fact that finding appropriate 4 nights accommodation at that stage (day before State of Orign) would have been near impossible. And he knew that too. He admitted he was taking calls from nearby accommodation places re availability of rooms.

Arrogant!

We reluctently accepted the room. Took him 2 hours to find the key to room. Trundle bed was supplied, but was a squeeze to fit it in.

Booked for two nights for two couples on wotif.com. Booked for two double beds, got one double and two singles. Male manager has poor manners and persona. Room had dust, hair, mould, no doorknob in bedroom and very uncomfortable beds. Pillows were super lumpy to the point where I preferred to sleep without one. We left the "please make up our room" sign on door handle and went out all day only to come back and find that they had removed the sign, they had opened one of the balcony doors and moved clothes around. The room was not made up, still sheets and towels from day 1 and beds left unmade. Smoke alarm is fixed to kitchen bench and not working. Light fittings loose and cobwebs under beds. Luckily we didn't spent much time in our Apartment. We will not be going back and do not recommend this place. You would be better off spending some more money and feeling safe and clean in your accommodation.
