“Not 5 star”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 11, 2013

Very friendly staff - well groomed and polite, Could not rate this hotel as a 5 star though, I would call it a 4 star. Why? I left my toothbrush behind expecting that there would be one provided in the bathroom - I was wrong, if I'd asked I may have been given one but seeing as we were only there one night it wasn't worth it.
Also, my car had picked up some bird poo on one of the windows I was hoping that the valet parking staff would have cleaned it up as a lot of real 5 star hotels would have - it's the little things that make all the difference. The rooms are nice and clean and comfortable but a little tired. Very handy to QPAC which is the main reason we chose this hotel.

Dear Ian_and_Roybn,

Thank you for the recent review for the Rydges South Bank Brisbane.

It is pleasing to read your kind words in relation to our staff at the hotel. The Rydges South Bank Brisbane is a 4* property, my apology if you had thought different. Whilst a toothbrush is not available in the guest room, it is available on request from our Guest Service team.

The Valet Team at the hotel provide an excellent service however car detailing is not a requirement of their job.

Thank you again for the review.

Kind regards

Great location on South Bank if you are not interested in shopping whilst in Brisbane. Easy to wander around the parklands, visit Streets Beach and the library and museums. Rooms looking a little tired but staff make up for it with their friendliness. Small issue with being charged twice for minibar - once on checkout and once after we had left - but that was resolved without fuss.

Only disappointment was the new pool which has been completed since our last visit. Was hoping they would put in an indoor heated pool as an alternative to Streets Beach in the winter but unfortunately this is an outdoor unheated pool right next to the bar (and I mean literally) really only good for the "pool party" feel for the "young beautiful people" so to speak.

Had a great little meal in the CBD Restaurant. It was very quiet in there and I think it misses out due to the vast number of options in the area, but to be honest its as good if not better than most of those that pitch themselves as family friendly.

Overall a great option if travelling with children for a couple of days in Brisbane.

Dear howjac,

Thank you for the review surrounding your recent stay with us at Rydges South Bank Brisbane.

The Hotel is fortunate to be located in the heart the bustling South Bank Precinct and Entertainment hub. Whilst the shopping is minimal this side of the river, it is only a short stroll across the Victoria Bridge to the Queen Street Mall.

Please accept my apologies for the duplicate charge for minibar, it is good to see this was resolved promptly.

The transformation of the Podium Level in the hotel has been a welcomed addition; unfortunately an indoor pool was not feasible however the position of the pool attracts a lovely bit of morning sun.

Thank you for the excellent feedback in relation to the CBD Bar & Cafe, your comments are much appreciated.

I look forward to welcoming you back to the hotel in the near future.

Kind regards

We stayed for five nights, as we were working at the Brisbane conference centre next door. The hotel is excellently placed for the conference centre and a range of other south bank venues and restaurants. Our room was large, with a lounge and separate bedroom. Despite being right next to the train tracks, the soundproofing was excellent and I don't recall being disturbed by trains at night. Concierge service was excellent. Room service breakfasts were good but the cooked food was gEnerally cold by the time it got to us. I would have rated the hotel more highly but the First day they forgot one of the meals. On the second day they forgot to make up the room.

Room Tip: Try and go for a room overlooking grey st

Dear Malimover,

Thank you for the recent review in relation to your stay with us here at the Rydges South Bank Brisbane,

It is excellent to read you have enjoyed the ease and convenience of the hotel’s location and the vast offerings of the South Bank Precinct.

The King Suites in the hotel are a good choice for those longer stays as they provide a separate lounge and dining room with a good king sized bedroom. It is really pleasing to read the Concierge team have been a standout for you during your stay.

Please accept my apologies for the issues with the temperature of the Room Service and attention to detail with deliveries and servicing.

I do hope to have the pleasure of welcoming you back to the hotel in the near future.

Kind regards

If you ever felt homesick for the London South Bank then its worth trying the Brisbane equivalent - complete with its own "London Eye" - and the Rydges is slap in the middle.
The Rydges chain are fairly reliable if not spectacular as hotels go. This particular example is well run and perfectly adequate for a short stay. Its prime selling point is its location literally among the museums / concert halls and restaurants in Brisbane.

Excellent with short way to all the restaurants at South Bank, beautiful esplanade and a lot of museums in the neighbourhood. We had a room with balcony and wonderful view to city center. Delicious breakfast. Very helpful staff at reception og consierge. Would very much like to stay there again, but rather pricy.

Room Tip: If you can afford it - book a room with a balcony.

Dear marithbk,

Thank you for your wonderful review of Rydges South Bank Brisbane.

I couldn't agree more with your comments in relation to the location of the hotel. Everywhere you look, you are surrounded by restaurants and the influence of the cultural precinct.

The Deluxe Queen rooms offer an amazing outlook over the Brisbane River & City and are definitely worth that little bit of extra money.

I look forward to welcoming you back to the hotel in the near future.

Kind Regards,

When first arriving at Rydges our car was taken via valet parking, a great service provided. We then went to check in at 3:30pm an hour and a half after official check in and our rooms were not ready. We did recieve complimentary drinks in the bar but was still a little annoyed. The rooms were a great size but the lighting in the room was terrible on one side of the room as there are no down lights. Understand that this is for atmosphere but you should be able to have the option of turning them on if needed. The shower in one of our rooms was broken and therefore had to hold the nozzle while showering, too late at night to even think about getting it fixed. The rest of the stay was fine until we went to check out and was hit with a $35.00 charge per car per night for valet parking. There was no information given about the price of the valet at check in and if there was we would have considered not bringing a car and catching public transport. This was ridiculous that we had to pay this when the 2 rooms cost up to $500.00 a night. NOT HAPPY!!! Communicatio is key Rydges.

Dear TegS_13,

Thank you for your feedback in relation to your stay with us here at Rydges South Bank Brisbane.

My apologies that your room wasn't available upon check-in, however it is excellent to see that we were able to accommodate you in one of the hotel bar's until this became available.

Disappointing to read that your stay and this review was so heavily influenced by the price of the Valet Parking. We do our very best to communicate this with all guests, with two dedicated signs at the front of the hotel, information on our website and also it is communicated on the valet slip that the Concierge team give you upon receipt of your car being dropped off.

I do hope I have the opportunity of welcoming you back to the hotel in the near future.

Kind Regards,

Joel Gordon
