“Conference accommodation”
Reviewed May 11, 2012

Location is perfect for events at the Brisbane Convention Centre or Southbank. The rooms are spacious, clean and comfortable. Minor problems (blown bulb in bathroom) were fixed quickly and without fuss. Check in and out was seamless and staff extremely polite and helpful. Valet parking was great, and while expensive - as anywhere in the city is - it was convenient and we were able to drop the car off early (0830) on the day of check in, and pick it up late (1700) on the day we checked out. There was even a bottle of chilled water in the car with our bags when the car was brought up for us. Hotel definitely on the expensive side, but comfortable and pleasant stay. Lots of places around to eat and only a short walk to the city.

Dear TravellerToowoomba,

Thank you for the review,

Our location in South Bank and being attached to the Convention Centre is very handy indeed. I find we have space in South Bank and none of the city traffic.

I would like thank you for your comments regarding our staff, we try to accommodate guest needs whenever we can and glad to see we could help you with your vehicle. The bottled water is part of the service, but believe it is those extra touches that count.

We look forward to your next visit.

Thanks again Scott

Staying quite frequently in this hotel, its always a pleasure. Great staff who will go out their way to make your stay comfortable. The rooms are clean and spacious. Even better when you have signed up on their loyalty program like me and get a complementary upgrade to King suite from time to time.
Breakfast is great with a big variety and fresh unlike some other places I have come across in Brisbane. I love sitting in their CBD bar, which is open to Grey St., for a snack and a couple of drinks after work.
For me, the location of the hotel is one of the best with great restaurants and pubs just around the corner.
The south bank parkland is just across the road and if you stay over the weekend, go to the South bank market but be prepared to put up a fight with your missus about who will take care of the credit card! Last time I lost that fight.. Missus=credit card, me=packed up like a donkey. But I certainly will not blame the Rydges for that....

Room Tip: For a nice view over the Brisbane river try to get a room in the North-East corner of the hotel.

Dear “Healesvillebilly”

Thank you very much for the review!

We are very grateful for your loyalty and it is great to see our staff are going the extra mile.

The PriorityGUEST program is fantastic, it offers so much for members and there is no cost. As mentioned when available the complementary room upgrades.

The buffet breakfast currently situated on Level 12 combines great food with great views, a match made in heaven.

Unfortunately I think the fight will always have the same ending as South Bank has so much to offer.

Thank you again, I look forward to welcoming you back to Rydges and South Bank soon.

Nice hotel but undergoing construction at the moment. Its in a good location in southbank by the river. There was a Buddhist festival while I was there and fireworks and a Ferris Wheel which was beautifully lit. Its a short stroll (10 min) to get over the river to the city and mall. There are several good restaurants within a short 15 to 20 minute walk as well. The conference centre is the next building so it is very convenient if you are attending a conference. The only other hotel nearby is Mantra which is one block further away.

Good points:
location for conference and not too far from city
room was comfortable although not massive in size
room service good

Bad points:
$29 per day for internet with no wifi in rooms (ethernet cable)! Can you believe there are still hotels in big cities which charge for wifi? At least it was reasonably fast. They didn't charge extra for air and water so I guess thats a positive :)
breakfast very expensive $30 ish so didn't have it (I bought cereals and my own milk and there is a sink and microwave in the main room like a little kitchenette).
charge for using credit cards (1.5% MC V and 3% Amex ...or thereabouts)

Dear “Peripotetic”

Thank you for the review,

Times are changing and we are going along for the ride, the hotel is indeed modernizing it appearance to keep up with current trends.

South Bank is a fantastic location to be for the reasons you have mentioned and many more.

The hotel has a broadband connection in the rooms, if you join as a Priority Guest which is free to do so at the reception this will discount the internet to $14.50 per day. There are many more benefits and discounts of being a member listed on our website.
The hotel also offers complimentary WiFi in the lobby area and the CBD bar & cafe.

The buffet breakfast on level 12 is one of the options available for breakfast, if the buffet is not to your liking the CBD Cafe is open from 06:30 serving A’la Carte breakfast.

Once again thank you.

Great views of Brisbane , buffet breakfast was of high quality great variety, no complaints on any of the staff all were helpful and friendly. The room (2 double beds) was spacious my only complaints was only 2 chairs on the balcony and no table and found it quite amusing that they will charge you $200.00 for smoking on the balcony as it is a 100% smoke free hotel but i was at a function there and they allowed you to smoke on the balconies there? But will come back and stay.

Dear “Lairoo”

Thank you for the review.

The views from the upper levels of the hotel are truly stunning. I am glad you enjoyed your breakfast experience with us.

The balconies as mentioned currently just have the chairs but it is something the hotel is looking into.

The hotel, rooms and balconies are non smoking for the comfort of other guests and the lingering smell it leaves in the rooms. The rooftop has designated smoking areas, similar to other venues, at either end of the building to accommodate patrons at functions wishing to smoke. The balconies are above all rooms in the hotel and therefore not causing any discomfort for other guests.

I look forward to welcoming you back to Rydges South Bank in the near future.

Thanks again Scott

The Rydges Hotel is perfect if you are going to Brisbane to see a show. Walking distance to the theatre. Due to work being carried on around the hotel it was difficult to find. I was greeted by a very pleasant concierge person who parked my car. Welcomed and check in very quickly at reception with everything explained in a professional and welcoming manner. My room a reasonable size, very clean and also very comfortable. The bed extremely comfortable. The only disappointing aspect was having to have breakfast sitting on a bar stool due to the dining room being closed.
Check out was a breeze - would certainly stay there again.

Dear “Robbie524”

Thank you so much for the review!

Rydges South Bank is in an ideal location for many reasons but certainly for the one mentioned in your review.

The hotel is endeavouring to modernize it appearance and the new facade is underway.

I am so pleased to see our staff have presented themselves in a friendly and efficient manner. We are passionate about customer service and it is a pleasure to read it is being delivered.

Please accept my apology regarding the lack of adequate seating the in the CBD cafe for your breakfast.

I look forward to welcoming you back to Rydges South Bank soon.

Thanks again Scott

The room is quite tiny - even though we booked a queen river view. Nice view, large balcony but only 2 chairs & no table. The bathroom is tiny. The bed was so soft & old, very disappointing. Planned to stay 2 nights but checked out after 1 & moved to the Mantra next door. The reception staff didn't seem to care at all about our feedback.

Dear “scubagr”

It is disappointing to read you did not enjoy your stay with us at Rydges South Bank.

We have recently installed new beds into all of our guest rooms and have only received positive feedback from guests, so I apologise the beds were not to your liking.

Our staff prides themselves on delivering high levels of customer service. All feedback received should be taken on board relayed to the correct departments, without feedback we are unable to improve. It is disappointing to read what has been said regarding this.

I hope if you choose to stay again, we can exceed your expectations.

Kind Regards

Scott

I stayed at this hotel for three nights as I was attending a conference at the convention centre. I stayed in a queen room.Except for the standard issue uncomfortable hotel pillows the bed was very comforable. You can ask for foam or feather pillows at reception. The bathroom was excellent and came with a bath(although the water is too hard to have a luxurious bubble bath) There is was a microwave as well as the usual coffee making facilities. Each room has a courtyard. Whilst airconditioning is available you are able to open the door of the courtyard and have fresh air. The room was serviced each day so was kept very clean.
There is a buffett breakfast room( I found the prices a little expensive)as well as a cafe(a little more reasonable) but its vicinty to the South bank dining precinct made it more reasonable to eat out.
There is a short walk to the entertainment centre and a little longer(perhaps 10 minutes) walk into the Queen street mall and treasury Casino.
The South Brisbane train centre is a 2 minute walk away.
There were very good facilities for business people.
My only complaint is that I am a light sleeper and a major confrence was on and most of the delegates stayed at the hotel, I found I could hear the comings and goings of each person near my room at all hours of the night. I am aware that the hotel could do little about this.
The staff were fairly helpful although some didn't know much about the restuarants or attractions in the hotels vacinity when asked.

Room Tip: Let the reception know if you have sleeping problems.

Dear “LynMtIsa_Qld”

Thank you very much for taking the time to review the hotel”

I am glad you enjoyed your stay with us here at Rydges South Bank. We have recently installed new beds into all of the rooms and they have been a huge success. All of our standard rooms are located on the back side of the hotel and do not have balconies, with the exception of the standard rooms located on the 1st floor, which have addition of a small courtyard attached.

South Bank is a wonderful location to be, close to transport, restaurants and entertainment.

Please accept my apology regarding the noise from other guest throughout the evening/night, as you have said, a little hard to control.

We look forward to you returning in the near future.

Thanks again.
