Dear ‘lukejp1,’

Thank you for the good Review.

Really glad that you enjoyed the location and that you were able to sample some of the great local dining options. I definitely agree with your room tip; being able to enjoy a warm Brisbane afternoon on your own balcony overlooking the River and City is a phenomenal way to relax and unwind.

Thanks again, we hope to see you soon.

Kindest Regards,

You may think from the title that I'm exaggerating but this hotel caters for everyone and Ive stayed there quite a few times and have never had a bad experience. From the minute you pull up, it's valet parking and the staff always remember us and are are so welcoming, it's like returning home!! If you dont want to take your car, it's a short walk from the train station. We often take the train so we can have a few drinks the next day and not have to drive home. The downstairs CBD cafe is a fantastic place to spend a Sunday afternoon after a big night, having a few more drinks and getting totally relaxed before heading home. I totally rate the food, especially the nasi goreng, thai curry, the steak and the chicken caesar salad. The bar staff make a mean cocktail and there a variety of beers available. I have to mention the front desk staff, they are friendly and helpful and make sure the stay is memorable everytime. I dont think I've ever come across better front desk staff in any hotel Ive stayed in. We've have had champagne delivered on our birthdays and those little extra touches like a nice welcome back drink and a card waiting in your room to make you feel special. The rooms are quite spacious and i would recommend the king rooms or juniour suites if you are planning a special night. They cost little extra but have couches and a separate living area so you can spread out. Make sure you get a room with a balcony and a view of the river as there is nothing better than sitting out on that balcony wearing the Rydges robes with a glass of red in hand. The view is awesome and overlooks Southbank beach and the ferris wheel. There is a spa, sauna and gym if you feel like a workout. The equipment is pretty good and even I have tested it out. Mostly I like the spa though. I heard a rumour they are building a pool on the roof which will be awesome. You can walk over to the Southbank man-made beach if you feel like a swim, I like to look at it rather than swim in it but it's a pretty popular place to go on a weekend. Ive eaten at the Seafood buffet a couple of times (on Saturdays) and it's pretty special. The wine list is also amazing and not too over-priced. If you want, you can take your mini bar wine which is really cheap at $18 for a full bottle (and not a crappy wine). Of course 24 hour room serivice is a plus when you drag yourself back to the hotel at 3am and are starving. The burgers are delicious!! If you are going to stay here, make sure you sign up to the Rydges Priority Guest Program (it's free) because it entitles you to discount rates and 20% off your food AND drinks. But the best bit about this program is that you get 1pm check-out. If you are in Brisbane for the night to attend a concert or an event like we often are, that late check-out is a must! Seriously, how bad is it when you have a big night and then have to pack up at get out of the room by 10am? It's easy to get to most of the venues via public transport and it really isnt that far to walk from the City of even the Valley if you get stuck and cant find a cab (I've done it a few times-its a fantastic walk). If you get to love Rydges as much as we do and have a few stays in a year, they upgrade you to Platinum Priority Guest status and this entitles you to an amazing 3pm check-out!! Im not kidding Plus you also get 50% off food and drinks in the restaurants. I'm pretty sure this hotel is perfect for your business traveller as there is internet access in the rooms and all the things the business person needs but really, if you are into concerts and regularly stay in Brisbane for a bit of escapism, this is where you should stay. I cant end this wthout mentioning the "dream-beds" OMG!! Rydges have their own line of super comfy beds and these are probably the best nights sleeps i have ever had...I highly recommend this place, it may not be the cheapest hotel in Brisbane, but for all the extras that come along with your stay, it is totally worth it!!

Good place to go when not being overloaded with frenetic convention goers. Superb views over the river. Don't let the lack of a pool put you off when it is only a short walk from the free but well kept swimming feature of the South Bank Park.

Could not fault the room, virtually no noise. Balcony should have been good value but the lack of anywhere to put a drink or a plate when seated outside spoilt the effect.

Food at the ground floor cafe and bar were better than I expected. Yes, there are caesar salads and Caesar Salads. The outside bar is excellent for people watching on what has become a busy theatre and concert going Gray Street. If you don't like that the choice of restaurants of all kinds within a short walking distance is unbeatable.
Breakfasts are on the top floor and worth the time. A reasonable variety and good attention by the staff ensure a plentiful and fresh choice.

Room Tip: The balconies are worth it; the higher the better as there are tall facing buildings on Grey Street

We stayed at Rydges South Bank, Brisbane on 28.12.11. After I had booked i read a few negative reviews so was a bit hesitant to follow through with our stay. I must say we were pleasantly suprised and much better than we had anticipated. We had room 722. A seperate bedroom with a king bed and lounge/kitchenette.

The room was very clean and we could not fault the cleanliness. The room was a generous size and very well priced compared to the Mantra next door. The bed was very hard for what we liked.

Location was awesome, a couple minutes stroll to the Lagoon, which is where we spent most of the time with our 2 kids. Plenty of 'eating out' options, no need to drive anywhere.

We used room service several times and everything was very good and prompt.

The checkin staff were lovely, we didnt have any issues with any of the staff.

We recieved a complimentary late checkout.

Valet Parking is $30 a night, personally I thought it was a little overpriced.

Buffet breakfast was probably the only down fall. Its on level 12, and they dont have a full kitchen there, so there is only scrammbled eggs, no poached or fried, and very basic food. Next time I would probably just go out along the restaurants and eat breaky there. We did request poached eggs, but were told it was not possible.

Another draw back was the hotel not having a pool, for us. A staff member did tell us they were in the process of building one at the moment. Which will be a great addition. The Spa/Jacuzzi was nothing to rave about, could do with a re-tile in there, the tiles were so slippery when wet.

I would definately go back, especially if we got a great deal.

Room Tip: request a room away from the lifts as they can be noisy otherwise

Dear ‘shazznbazz,’

Thanks so much for reviewing us on Trip Advisor!

Really glad to hear that overall you had a great stay; noting the room service, staff friendliness and location. I appreciate your comments regarding breakfast and will pass on these details to our food and beverage team for review. The comments regarding the additional of a pool are definitely correct; the Podium Level due for completion in September will include a pool.

Many thanks again; we look forward to welcoming you back to Rydges South Bank Brisbane.

Kindest Regards,

This hotel was flooded in 2011 (only a little) but they did an amazing job getting back together to open quickly. The rooms are not outstanding as this is an older hotel, but they are comfortable. Ask for a high floor and a balcony with a view over the river. The other rooms look into buildings and life is too short to have a bad view :). The staff have always done their best for me. This hotel is right next to the convention centre.

Room Tip: High floor with a balcony looking over the Brisbane River

We stayed here for one night in November, because we had a show at QPAC. The room was very confortable and clean. It was great being so close to South Bank as it was a very hot day so we could go for a swim in the pool. Also as it was a Friday night, we could go to the markets. The CBD bar was great and although busy, the service was quick and we got a seat.
We got included buffet breakfast and it was delicious. Checking out was quick and easy and all the staff were polite throughout the stay,
There is very little to none negatives about Rydges.

Nice hotel with great location but caution, read the small print (if you are able to find it) as they don't award Rydges Club points on anything but full price bookings.

Dear ‘GailV01234,’

Thank you for taking the time to review the hotel.

With regards to the Rydges PriortiyGUEST membership program, members are able to accumulate points towards a free night with every eligible stay. Eligible stay are ultimately discounted stays as this is one of the member benefits.

I apologise if it has been communicated that only full price bookings are entitled to points as this is not the case.

Thanks again for the review and comments.
