“Average place for good price!”
Reviewed March 5, 2013 via mobile

We stayed here for one night in a privet room and can't really complain about anything as it was a decent room for a cheap price. The room was clean and served it purpose. The bathrooms were fine, nothing about them screamed unclean or amazing. The place was distinctly average but excelent cheap price tag.

The only things that were slightly antagonising was the fact that we couldn't get on to the free wifi as it was slow and too many other people were using it. It was fine at 6-8am though. The other thing was that we had to hire plates etc to eat from. But that was only annoying because we hasn't read the signs and were ready to serve the meal up but had nothing to serve it on. So our fault really.

The location was excelent, right next to Roma st station and the airport train and a small walk in to Brisbane centre!

I feel that I need to share my thoughts on this hostel. Usually I don't give bad reviews but I was really disgusted with this place.
My initial impression of the staff was great. They were friendly and helpful. But then when I went into the dorm building it immediately reeked of urine. Then I entered my room and it was filthy. Clothes everywhere as if a bomb went off and not only that, there was dirty food and dishes scattered around the place as well.

There isn't even a lounge area to to relax in to avoid the dirty room. They have a kitchen and a bar with stools but it isn't a good place to get comfy and chill out.

Disgusting, filthy rooms. Dirty bathrooms with no hand dryer or paper towel - which leads me to believe people don't wash their hands. Apparent issues with who 'owns' what bed. During my stay, someone said I was in 'his' bed, and the front desk had been removing the wrong bedding of guests on a regular basis. Kitchen requires you to pay a deposit prior to getting dishes and cutlery. Fairly loud hostel (can be a bonus, depending on the person). Only positive was the free wifi.

tl;dr - dirty, loud, free wifi.

Nice hostel in walking distance to most of the city´s points of interest and only about two minutes from a coles grocery store, which was a big plus for me. Another big advantage, the hostel offers is free wifi and two PCs for free use, although the connection is often very slow and the stools are way too uncomfortabe. The kitchen is quite big and well equipped and spacious fridges are offered to store your food. Crockery sets can be borrowed at the reception, for a deposit of 10$. The hostels home cinema is great, although it can get very hot inside. Especially on rainy days, they show a couple of really good movies on a big screen, a total of five per day. There are several more hsotels right next to this and all of them offer a great view over the citys skyline, which can be impressive at night.
The bathrooms are cleaned two times a day and are therefore quite clean.
The hostel offers a free job club, but it does not help at finding a job at all, but most of the personnel are very friendly backpackers and sometimes, if you are lucky, you can work for your accomodation.

they harp on about super fast broadband... Don't expect to get any connection in the peak times! They have not catered for "the modern era"...

Rooms are OK, showers and toilets are so busy that the cleaners can't keep up, so don't expect spotless!!!!

Bar... "Fiddlers Elbow" is a young persons place to get pissed! there is no tolerance for non drinkers, it's small and packed to the rafters! BUT... it was raining when I was there, so makes a big difference!!

Nachos... Best I've ever had... so not all negative!

I would stay somewhere else for the same money every time...

Room Tip: Do NOT get room 30!! SO much noise!!

Havd stayed here twice as a couple while backpacking, while not the best hostel its not the worst! Perks- close to station, 20 min walk to south bank and near coles and restaurants bar cinema across the road on caxton street! Great view of city from rooftop pool! Staff friendly and free wifi which is rare in australia! Bad points! Dirty pool, rooms very basic for price with shared bathrooms which do get cleaned twice a day but some drunken people obviously wee on the floor! Both times the top floor seemed to be full of young drunk british lads who kept you up all night n had no respect for anyone! The bar was also full of them! Have to rent your cutlery n kitchen always busy! So if you want a constant party then stay here but if not avoid!!

I stayed here on two separate occasions, once in a 6 person room with a fan and once in the 30 person room with fans. The 6-person room: Fan was broken, it blew, but couldn't oscillate. Window looked out into the courtyard/parking lot where people often walked past or gathered to smoke, often being very loud. 30-person room: Bed was right placed so that a fan was right next to my head. Do not expect people to respect other guests; turning lights on, shouting and playing loud music in the room happened nightly.

So if you are sensitive to noise, bring ear plugs. Also, none of the bunkbeds (actually regular single beds stacked ontop of eachother) had ladders. No lockers in any room, so you have to deposit valuables behind the reception.

Kitchen is adequate, with enough stovetops, fridges and cookware. On my first stay (early Nov) most people would wash their dishes so you always had clean pots and pans to use. On my second stay (late Dec, early Jan) the atmosphere had changed and the sinks were full of dirty dishes, meaning you had to wash up before you could cook.

The hostel has its own pub, which means that the owners will confiscate ANY alcohol on the premises, so if you've spent top dollar on a bottle of vodka be sure to hide it well. The pub was full of loud people, inside and outside, mostly very drunk British. Not very nice if your room is close to the pub. On Fridays they have a topless waitress, which I just found tacky and seeing drunk people trying to hit on her is embarrassing. They also force their employees to wear shirts (tank tops for girls) with sexual themes, girls wearing things like "You've been a bad boy, go to my room".

Pool was not cleaned very often and the water was visibly dirty. Also, keep in mind that there is a one way mirror under water so people outside the bar can see you.

They found bed bugs in one of the rooms.

Room Tip: If you choose one of the rooms with many guests, be sure to have earplugs and not bring any valuable...
