Can't believe my previous review was the most recent review!
Had brekkie in here through the week. We had the carrot and chickpea pancakes (again) and a special (pork & fennel sausage with Noosa peppers & olives on bread with poached eggs). Both were excellent! Good coffee too.
Probably my favourite place for breakfast!

Returned here for some brekkie as a change from the usual Bulimba venues. Great brekkie and coffees, service good too.

Went for breakfast on a Saturday around 9am. Got served straight away however our food took an hour. The place was full and the kitchen isnt very big but it just was that little bit too long to wait for the first meal of the day! I was starving! But when the food came it was amazing. i had the spinach, chorizo and ricotta omelte (it was the special of the day) and it was amazing.

i would recommend this place, but maybe go a bit earlier for breakfast to beat the rush.

Tables can only be booked for 4 people and above.

29 November 2012 – “Work can wait”

What do you do when you have to be at work in the morning?
Well, go to breakfast first of course! After all, breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and work could always wait.

And with that self rationalising, we decided to finally step inside Pompidou Cafe,
located on 216 Riding Road, Balmoral. Pompidou Cafe is a European inspired cafe perhaps with a French twist, (going by the name "Pompidou"), open 7 days a week for breakfast and lunch.

There are tables outside with DiBella umbrella shades but we choose inside, because of the quaint round brown wooden tables, with its matching chairs, and table centrepiece vase of flowers. A lovely touch to brighten any day. The large black & white family photograph that adorns Pompidou’s feature wall, is also alluring, and hard to take your eyes off it. One is left to ponder. Who are these people? Are they the inspiration for Pompidou? Who is that guy with the accordion and can he play “La Vie En Rose”? Long lost Relatives perhaps?

Our stomachs on the other hand weren’t pondering, but grumbling instead. After a quick browse, we ordered the Hash browns, avocado, capsicum jam, bacon & poached eggs (listed under “Pompidou Breakfast Classics” on the menu), and the Scrambled Eggs on Sourdough bread, grilled cherry tomatoes, chorizo and spinach glazed in olive oil. Not exactly cheap at $17 each but thought we’d give it a try anyhow.

For us it's always nice when there aren't too many patrons to distract staff away from VIP guests like yours truly, so we were able to order straight away! Service was great, the friendly staff ready to fill up your complimentary water, as soon as they see you running low. We also ordered short black espressos to jolt ourselves to a caffeine induced state, ready to take on the world. The coffee was only slightly bitter towards the end, nice enough, but not exactly the way we like. Breakfast arrived soon after.

My expectations on the portion size of the meals were met. Large enough, but not too much that you couldn’t finish it. The Capsicum jam on the avocado was magnificent. Soft textures, delicate and buttery-like with only a hint of sweet and spice. Went well with the hash browns, bacon and poached eggs. The Scrambled Eggs on sourdough with grilled chorizos was equally hearty, and the glaze of olive oil, on the cherry tomatoes and spinach did the trick.

Despite it being pricier, overall, after saying our goodbyes to the staff, we came away feeling like we had a very filling and tasty breakfast, satisfied, and ready to go back to bed. Maybe work could wait?

I've been to Pompidou a few times now. Today, we had Melbourne Cup Day lunch which was $45.00 per head for a delicious 3 course meal. The food is always great. Once a month the owner Phillippe has a dinner which features food from a different region of France each time. This month on 29/11/12 he will feature food from the Pyrenees. Fantastic food and service. This is the best cafe in Bulimba in my opinion.
