First of all City YHA is big. I actually mean really big. I stayed in a standard 4-person bunkbed room and had a bed right next to the gigantic window with lovely city view. The bed itself is standard, nothing special. The great advantage of the hostel is a swimming pool where you can meet all the other backpackers and have a chat.

Our first hostel in Australia and the best. Service at the desk, professional and helpful. They were not like some hostel workers that seem to think themselves "too cool" to be polite. Internet prices were steep. The rooms were well noise insulated, excellent air con, clean, well hoovered, clean beds, bathroom spotless, showers had good pressure and were hot. Cooking area was well respected as most YHAs are in my experience. There is a pool but I didn't try it.
There is a slight walk to the main city centre and to the lagoon beach/pool, but it is a nice pleasant walk along SouthBank.
I nice structured place to stay. If your thing is parties, you will be asked to leave pretty quickly. It's not that sort of place. But it is nice for the 30 something traveller

Room Tip: They'll all be fine. Get a double room if you can.

This yha hostel is easy to get to from the transit centre where the bus station is. You have a 10 min walk with a bit of a hill at the end, good exercise! Its the last hostel in the row and I'm sure it'll be the best. You could grab a taxi if u needed it out the front or take the 470 bus across the road, next to the police station but its doesn't take you to the door, just 2 stops up.
The reception area is quite big with a drinks machine, ATM, travel brochures and travel desk and of course friendly, helpful staff. Drifters bar is here also which hosts a trivia quiz on a tuesday and free poker on a Wednesday with a happy hour and varied menu.
The first building has great showers upstairs where the 3 share dorms are and I think some private. The other building has the majority of the rooms spread over 4 floors. The rooms are clean, fresh crisp white bed linen and clean communal areas, all with air con. Each bed has a locker with a power point. Level 5 has a large tv room, computers, pool table, tv for playing the wii, drink and snack machine, pool and of course the kitchen. The kitchen is a good size and is normally quite busy after 6. During or after this time it can look a bit of a mess due to some people not cleaning up after themselves-!! Culprits can't be easily caught. Staff check it and cleaning co. come in around 10pm.
Hostel is in a great location, very close to suncorp stadium and coles supermarket, 10 min walk to south bank, passing the library with free wifi. The cheap cinema is near southbank on grey st, excellent value. The city centre is about 20 min walk about the same to the west end. You could also walk to the valley, I've often walked back from there, taking 40 mins ish. The riverside walks are lovely in the good weather as too going on the city cat and lone pine koala sanctuary.
Great hostel, it is on the big side but if you start talking to roomies or people in the kitchen, at poker or the free market walk on a saturday(thats where i did) etc you'll soon get to know people. Enjoy

This is one of the best YHA's that I've stayed at so far, even despite there being a lot of people that stay here. The main thing I kinda disliked about the hostel was that there are two separate buildings/sides to the hostel which does tend to split up the amenities and things the hostel has to offer. I really do appreciate how they put effort into making daily events happen here and the restaurant/bar near the lobby makes it really convenient for people to grab a quite bite or drink.

Normally I stay in a 4-share room however I decided to opt for the double room for the one night. I was really pleased with the room and managed to get enough rest hopefully before my morning flight the following day out of Brisbane. Overall a great value, and being a YHA member certainly helps bring the rate down!

Most has already been said. We are not in the "Y" age range but this will not stop us staying here again. Clean, friendly, great location, excellent bar, cafe, restaurant with good food and coffee. Might get a little noisy but it didn't bother us at all, the view from our room more than made up for it.

I was very impressed by the YHA in Brisbane. It is about a 10 minute walk from the train station. It is located beside several other hostels and has a small cafe/restaurant on location. The common areas and kitchen are huge and there is tv room, and rooftop pool as well. Staff was really friendly and helpful. It took about 20 minutes to walk downtown.
