“A compact mid-city casino with an adjacent hotel and restaurants”
Reviewed July 10, 2011

The Brisbane casino is a relatively small casino, located in an old Government building which was converted to its current use. The old building places restrictions on the configuration of the gaming facilities- I found it had a "cramped" feel compared with more spacious casinos.

It's ok if you want to visit a casino and gamble.

However, I didn't find it to be an exciting entertainment drawcard.

The limited size of the place means it doesn't have the space for a wide range of entertainment, socializing and dining options.

The Jupiters Casino complex on the Gold Coast is a more compelling destination.

This was easily the worst casino in an English-speaking country that I've ever been in. The place was unattractive on the inside, I didn't like playing here, the poker players were the worst I've ever encountered. On a brighter note, the staff were competent...at least it has THAT going for it.

“What a Yawn!”

As a whole the casinos in Australia are a big disappointment. After you have been to Las Vegas, these casinos are very disappointing. This casino is housed in the old treasury building, which had very interesting architectural designs. The casino is very small and dark. The pokies-slot machines-are just average and even though I played a little, there was no payout. Unless you just want to gamble, you can skip the casino.

“Was not as large as I expected, Slots were boring.....”
Reviewed February 22, 2006

I was expecting a casino with class and excellent service, due to all the internet hype... I was disappointed on both counts. Above all, it was not worth all the money I spent there.
Brisbane could use a bit of competition, to raise the quality of this (one and only REAL casino, in town.

“Not Exactly Monte Carlo, But still Alright!”
Reviewed December 17, 2003

The Treasury Casino definately *looks* impressive that's for sure. The intricate stone masonry from years gone by, gives the whole place a very elegant appearance.

When you walk up the front steps, it is still impressive. Even the main gaming hall, with it's lines and lines of roulette tables (some of which are fully computerised), and high ceiling strung with tiny little fairy lights, is still awe inspiring- but beyond that, it is kind of a let down.

Unfortunately many rooms of this grand old building now barely represent glamour and elegance, and are lined with rows and rows of 5 cent Pokie Machines. Very tacky.

As for places to eat, Cafe 21 has a very appetizing menu, but is extremely overpriced, and the service is SLOW! And in all honesty the food is nothing to rave about, as my meal partner stated, the soup (which cost around $15 a bowl!) tasted like the canned stuff!

However, it is Brisbane's only casino, and I think it is something we are all thankful for. It is definately an improvement on Jupiters at the Gold Coast (which is owned by the same company), but naturally cannot live up to the glamourous image it tries to portray.

It is a nice night out though- but you'll find the $5.00 table minimums annoying, unless you are a bigtime gambler! Also, don't bother about dressing up, although there are dress regulations, nobody seems to follow them. Sadly, you'll find most people in jeans, sweaters and sneakers.

If you are in Brisbane though, take a look at the place. It's worth a quick visit if anything!
