“Only worth one night's stay”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 24, 2012

The hotel has quite a good location within the Brisbane city centre, convenient for visiting the arts precinct (15 minutes walk from the hotel) but this is the only positive aspect of it.
1) The room we had was small and dim and smelled of sewage.
2) The air-cond was so noisy we had to turn it off at night.
3) The front desk man was lukewarm when approached for information about public transport, only managing a perfunctory smile after the conversation was over, and the smile ended so quickly that I wasn't sure I saw it.
4) On the second morning of our stay both of the hotel lifts broke down and we had to use the fire stairs, but the hotel management didn't even think of displaying a notice in the lift lobby on every floor. We waited for 5 minutes for the lifts before trying the fire stairs. It was only when we got to the lobby that we realised what had happened.

Some might say that at AUD130 a night these days one couldn't expect much by way of comfort, but I've had much better experience in Scandinavian hotels at this price! No wonder not many tourists are willing to visit Australia.

Rooms are very small had a queen size room which had a chair and that was all.Having a shower was a nightmare as there was no pressure at all had to run around to try and get wet.Not worth the money we paid, great for a backpackers.

My husband and I stayed two nights and found facilities most acceptable and staff all very friendly and helpful. While rooms were small and fixtures basic, everything worked well and location could not have been better for us using public transport on this particular trip. Easy walking distance to QPAC and Mall and Roma St train station. We were upgraded to a terrace room on arrival. We used the restaurant for one of our evening meals and found the food very tasty, sufficient and well priced. Will definitely consider staying there again.

Room Tip: Not sure what the rooms without a terrace were like, but as we were upgraded to a terrace room, the...

The hotel is well located: very close to the Roma Station and to Queens Street. There´s a nice restaurant in the hotel. The rooms are good, but could be better. The staff is friendly. Not bad, but nothing special, except the price and the location.

I stayed at HGW in July when my critically I'll mother was sent to Brisbane for neurosurgery. 1000km from home, arrived late, good to head to a hotel I know. The staff were so kind, especially when I needed to extend my stay several times. My room was, as always, immaculately clean and promptly attended to. Staff were friendly and helpful. The location is great and the tariff very reasonable. If you are looking for value for money, HGW is the place to stay. It's nothing fancy, but I will keep coming back!!!!

I stayed at the Hotel George Williams for a conference in July 2012. The hotel is conveniently located only a 5 minute walk from Roma St station, and a 10 minute walk from Queen St Mall. A restaurant (325 on George) is located on the ground floor next to receiption, and serves breakfast lunch and dinner, as well as cafe items. Staff at receiption were always friendly and efficient.

The room I stayed in on the 1st floor had a queen bed, bar fridge, microwave, desk & chair, digital TV, while the bathroom had a combined bath/shower. The fittings were very modern, except for the TV which was a bit small and in the old 4:3 non-widescreen ratio, and there were no Foxtel channels, only the free-to-air digital channels. The bed was extremely comfortable, and the desk area was a good size, perfect for setting up a laptop. The room was also very secure, having to swipe your card at a glass door in the hallway before swiping it again at your room door.

Conference facilities were excellent, with 2 rooms on the lower ground floor, each about 60 sq m, as well as another large room on the first floor. Tea, coffee, water and mints were provided for delegates and included in the room hire.

Overall I was very happy with my accommodation and conference facilities at the Hotel George Williams. The only disappointment was the included breakfast, which was a very limited menu and may not be to everyone's liking.

The bed was extremely small. Even too short for my girlfriend, and no way wide enough for two. And as soon as I laid down, the springs went totally flat. It was such an old and abused bed. The walls were so thin that the guy next door kept us awake with his phone talks until 2am and then with his snores.
The worst thing however were, that all four of us woke up with bed bugs bites. We have a total of 53 bites between us....
