“Trendy and affordable”
Reviewed November 11, 2012

We arrived Saturday morning after an early flight. The hotel is a short walk uphill from Roma St station, as long as you use the correct exit (exit via Roma St Parklands). The room was understandably not available at such an early hour (approx 9:30am) but we were able to leave our bags. Reception staff also offered to give us a call as soon as a room was available, which was a nice touch.

There is a variety of perfumes & colognes on the reception counter to use, which is handy to freshen up when you are passing through. As is a large bowl of apples, and in the lobby was some water & iced tea (I think?). The lobby is dressed in a whimsical way, with a few different colour schemes for the seating. Overall a comfortable place to wait in.

The room was on the fifth floor with a balcony to the north did not have a great view, as it looked out over Brisbane suburbs rather than the parklands. The huge king size bed was very comfortable when sharing the bed with a restless sleeper. The roomy bathroom has a large-ish shower, big enough that you don't bump into any of the walls while showering. The TV was a little small for the room size, as when lying in bed the screen looks small (and has terrible sound quality).

The location of the hotel is fantastic, just a quick 10 minute walk downhill to Brisbane CBD and Queen St mall. Not much further to the river and the free ferry.

Our package included breakfast, which can either be ordered from Room Service or eaten buffet style in the cafe in the lobby. The buffet breakfast was well catered and frequently topped up so you won't go hungry! A Nespresso machine & T2 Tea are also available.

I would definitely stay again in Brisbane.

Room Tip: Rooms at the front of the hotel will have a view of Roma St Parklands

Hi Madge B,

We're so glad to hear that you had such a pleasant stay – thanks so much for taking the time to let us know. We love to think of ways to make our guest's experience 'more than' your regular hotel stay with surprising little extras. Our delicious Evo hair care products and scent bar with the latest designer fragrances certainly makes it worth leaving your favourite brands at home (and a bonus if you like to travel a bit lighter).

It sounds like you really made the most of our great location too – topped off by a great night sleep in our super comfy Urban Snorer bed.

Our friendly staff hope to see you next time you stay in Brisbane.

Kind regards,

Lachlan Furnell

Stayed for the second time thinking will book 3 nights as will be in Brisbane for work reasons and the hotel is close to where I need to be each day! Well what a nightmare the room we were put in echoed all night from the lift, it felt like you were in a bad dream! Thought the noise would settle down during the night but it did not - so unfortunately went to work on about 2 hours sleep! Annoyed the next morning discussed this with the Manager and was moved to another room - it was a friday night and what had happened was the top floor was hired out for a 21st Birthday so all the noise travelled right through the bedroom. We called reception again and got moved for a third time in a row as we needed to sleep early as we had very busy work days ahead. Would not stay at this hotel again as the building has been renovated though the building is old the noise travels especially when close to the lifts Plus the lack of effort in the actual renovation you can see like the bathrooms could be re-done again. Plus if people are having parties in there rooms or up in the top bar/function rooms the noise travels to the rooms below. For the price you pay there are better and more quiet hotels in Brisbane that you would rather spend your money at.

Room Tip: Stay well away from the lifts and also do not book on floors 10th or 9th on a weekend as you will he...

Hi chzechchick01,

Thank you for taking the time to post your feedback, and choosing to stay with us for a second time. Hotel Urban Brisbane is a very popular venue for special events such as birthdays, weddings and corporate functions due our amazing views and location to the city attractions. We are extremely sorry and disappointed to hear that your stay was not as pleasant as the previous one and that the noise you encounted on a very busy weekend interrupted your restful evening. As you mention, our team did try to accommodate your request by upgrading you to the last suite available, however in foresight was perhaps the incorrect decision as it was located on the floor below our function space. Whilst we target these special events we made the decision to reduce our license to midnight which ensures that all events close down at a reasonable hour. We take our feedback very seriously, so it's disappointing to hear that your stay did not live up to your expectations. We would really like the opportunity to welcome you back in the future to experience our hotel in a better light. If I can encourage you to forward your details to stay@hotelurban.com.au next time you require accommodation in the city and I will ensure that you receive one of our many rooms located in a quieter part of the hotel.

Kind regards,

Lachlan Furnell

Yes it might be a touch out of town but a nice easy check in with a nice modern clean room and two complimentary beers (cos I looked like I needed them) and for being a regular return customer is a nice touch. Has a nice restaurant is a great place to talk to clients and with everything you need and I always enjoy my stay here. Reception is modern and nothing is a hassle and I just seem to always enjoy my stay here. Will be back every time I have to travel to Brisbane.

Hi Scarcev,

Wow what a great review – we're just thrilled to hear that you continue to enjoy your time at Urban. We love seeing familiar faces (and new ones too), so it's a pleasure for us to remember the small details that make our regular guests feel at home. Gazebo Restaurant and Bar certainly is a great place to meet for business or pleasure.

If you ever need more space or privacy to meet clients, we have a range of impressive meeting and event spaces (some with fantastic views too). The latest addition to our array of spaces is the ornate Green Room, perfect for a lunch for up to 12 people, or smaller cocktail parties.

Thanks again for your glowing review and being such a loyal guest.

We look forward to seeing you again next time.

Kind regards,

Urban Brisbane is very well located, next to Roma St Station & Brisbane's main transport hub. Even better it is immediately next to Roma St Parkland which includes amazing botanic gardens & great cycle ways & running tracks. It is in the centre of Brisbane for business or pleasure, but it provides the perfect escape from city living. By the way the restaurant food is top quality.

Hi PeterV771,

It's so nice to receive such great feedback.

Our central and scenic location is perfect for getting out and about in the great outdoors (if you manage to drag yourself away from the oasis of your room that is)!

Our Executive Chef certainly takes pride in our delicious seasonal menu at Gazebo Bar & Restaurant. Did you try our famous Chocolate Brownie w/ peanut butter ice cream & hot fudge? It's to die for!

We will be sure to pass your comments onto the Chef and our friendly team too.
Thanks for taking the time to comment,

Kind Regards,

We stayed here for 2 nights with 2 kids at a great wotif rate incl breakfast. One hardly comes across a hotelroom without having to pay extra for the kids, not here!) It truly was one of the best buffet breakfasts I have seen/tasted in a long time. A good espresso coffee is never included with hotel breakfasts (recently stayed at Novotel Coffs where you easily pay $4.50) Here they had the prof Nespresso machine which is all fine with me! Staff very nice, I really like the hotels over the top french reproduction/Kartell look and before going out the door you can just spray one of your fave perfumes for him or her. We chose the hotel just for their reputation of a very good bed as that means a great deal to us and they totally lived up to it. Walking to southbank with our 2 little ones was just do-able but took a taxi back for only $12.50 (compare to $15 parking at southbank) The only reason I did not give 5* is because of their parking garage. I have never seen so many pillars , so hard to get around them. We have a 7 seater and got stuck on the lowest level as it was full but you could not make a turn as they were cleaning up and furniture was piled up against the wall (which is a dead end) So we just parked in walking way to elevators, fortunately next morning most cars had left so we could get out. We allready recommended this hotel to others when visiting ekka or entertainment centre as well.

Hi cutelizzy,

Thanks so much for your glowing review – we're so glad that you enjoyed your time at Urban, and found it to be a welcoming getaway for your family. We love to cater for all types of travellers including families with kids like yourself. It sounds as though you appreciated all of our little extras that make us 'more than a hotel' and a real home away from home (only a hop, skip and jump away to Brisbane City). Sorry to hear that you had to negotiate some tricky turns in our car-park, hopefully there will be a little more space available for smoother navigating next time! And so nice of you to spread the word about your holiday at Hotel Urban.

Good deal for the night. The bed was so comfortable. Wished i could have brought one home. The room was small but clean and tidy. We had breakfast included in the deal but it wasnt all that good. It was cold and had been sitting on plates under the warmer for along time and everything was dried up. I certainly wouldnt have paid $30.00 for the buffet breakfast. We had room service of A pizza and wedges which was very nice. We had a nice stay and we would stay again.

We stayed here on a very cheap wotif deal for just one night. The bed was amazingly comfortable! The room was small but tidy and had a good tv with movies on for us to watch in the morning.

Was about a 10 minute walk to the Queen Street Mall.
