“NOISE ALERT”

We have just returned from a two night stay at the Sofitel Brisbane. On checking in we were allocated a room. Within five minutes of entering our room and placing our luggage away loud noises started in the room above. We realised that workmen were carrying out some renovations and this noise would continue until 5.00 p.m. and probably restart the next morning. We telephoned reception and asked to be moved away from the noise. Reception advised that they would have somebody come to our room within 10 minutes with the card to a new room. No-one arrived after 20 minutes and we telephoned reception again. They were surprised that nobody had contacted us. We proceeded to reception, handed our luggage over and advised we were going to get some lunch and hoped a new room would be allocated on our return. When we returned we did receive the card for a new room. We did hear a little bit of a noise on occasion also in this new room but it was certainly not the problem we had experienced previously. If we were aware that renovations were being carried out we would have stayed at the Hilton. Management should have pre warned guests of work being carried out at the hotel which may cause disruption.

We spent two nights at the Sofitel. It was the second time we have stayed there and we chose it for our wedding anniversary as it is our favourite of the 5 star hotels in Brisbane. The standard of service, professionalism and attitude of all the staff was exemplary. We were treated to a room upgrade, champagne and strawberries ... A lovely touch to acknowledge our anniversary. I cannot speak more highly of this Hotel. It has old-world charm and elegance, fantastic location, lovely restaurant and bar, and wonderful service.

The staff were exemplary from the moment we arrived - late due to air traffic. They made us feel welcome and valued. I love the beds at Sofitel and even my husband who is not a traveler was comfortable enough to be snoring moments after his head hit the pillow.Oh and a clever room allocation touch - there were other families on our floor.
Sofitel provides that wonderful combination of professional hospitality and the sense of staying with friends.

Have stayed here regularly over past year or two and its a good business hotel with all the facilities you expect of this class of accomodation. The executive lounge is good, breakfast there provides a wide albeit unremarkableselection. Service is polite and helpful - also what you expect in this type of hotel. However public areas on ground floor are open, noisy and so unappealing I have never been into the food areas. There is a cafeteria style cafe/ breakfast bar of some type which would fit well in a freeway service station and a restaurant with unappealing menu and unattractive decor. If you exit thought the hotel and towards the city be prepared for a walk through the main railway station.

Room Tip: Stay in an executive level room so you can access the executive floor

1. The place smells great.
2. Near everything especially the central train station. Take the train to the airport instead of a cab.
3. The club sofitel rooms are much better and you have access to the top level club - evenings on the club floor are exquisite. The lighting, decor, nibbles, music - all just brilliant. Breakfast there is also outstanding.
4. Gym is good but nothing dramatic.
5. Beds are perfect.
6.Do wish you could open the windows for some fresh air.

Room Tip: Club rooms are a must.

Her name is Gillan (hope I spelt it rght), a 4.5 year veteran of the Sofitel in Brisbane. She was a one man (woman) show over at the Club floor (30th) and she did just about everything except cook breakfast. Clearing dishes, wiping tables, serving coffee, tea and the list goe son. Issuing WIFI passes, helping guests print documents and repairing defective room keys. She was one bumble bee, flitting from table to table with the same "bonjour" greeting and a REAL smile on her face. That just about makes me want to come back to the Sofitel. The rooms were great, views are ok and there were slippers and WIFI in the rooms (unlike the Sheraton in Sydney).

I would highly recommend this to all my business friends and associates. Get on that executive floor.
