“Disappointing - definately not 5 star”
Reviewed June 7, 2011

We recently stayed in a one bedroom apartment which was booked from a 'secret hotel' promotion on lastminute.com.au, where the hotel was rated 5 stars. I'm not sure if the hotel rates itself 5 star but if it does this rating definitely needs to be reviewed as the hotel was lacking in the polish expected from a 5 star hotel.

Firstly, the redeeming features...It is conveniently located within walking distance to the city, we even walked back from Suncorp stadium without any troubles. The one bedroom apartment was a good size and we probably would have used the balcony overlooking the botanical gardens if it was warmer. The Pool/ gym/ spa area is also very nice.

However, there are alot of areas which let this hotel down.

We arrived early and was not expecting the room to be ready but were told that it was. On organising the sofa bed for our daughter we found the sofa bed was not made nor was there any additional linen in the apartment to use. Housekeeping brought up sheets and a blanket quickly on request, but then we found the blanket to be stained. It was only when she was going to bed did we realise that housekeeping didn't provide any pillows either.

The other area that was a real let down is that there seems to be a lot of permanent residents in this hotel, and hotel rooms are mixed among residential. As we walked from the lifts to our room we passed a number of open doors with people in their dressing gowns sitting at their computer, or like our neighbour, listening to their radio from 6am in the morning. Rooms are not sound proof. Another room had boxes stacked around the door in the corridor; without the usual separation of residential and hotel floors, it makes the place feel very down market, almost like a hostel.

These elements teamed with a pokey restaurant with unattractive view of the driveway entrance and very dated decor all made for a fairly unremarkable stay.

Staff were extremely helpful at all times bar one. Great meals, great room service.
Highly recommend this hotel. It will now be my hotel of choice whilst staying in the city.

Never never stay at the Hotel, if the AAA rated this as a 5 star then they should run to 10 stars because this is the pits.....The decor is not 5 star, the linen is not 5 star and the bathroom!!! mould, smells you name it.. I have never been so dissapointed in a acommodation let alone 5 star were it should be good. If you have to stay here take your thongs to wear in the shower..See the photo's attached.

We stayed here for my birthday this year. Now as much as I would love to rave that the complex is perfect as the staff is brilliant, it's not a 5 star and a tad overpriced for what you get.
I will just stick with facts with my review.
PROS.
Location, smack bang city, overlooking the botanical gardens, no car needed, very quiet too suprisingly!
.Kitchen facilities it is an apartment!
.The pool area and deck is to die for!
.clean but slightly dated
CONS.
You have to ask for robes, slippers extra things that might be missing in your room.
.TV's just have 3 channels and horrible quality,no dvd,pay movies are nearly $20
.beds can hurt your neck and you may need a frequent massage!

The management is lovely but this place is suited for business people in for a quick stay, not a lot of nights as there is a lack of facilities, most people are permanent renters there, would not be suitable for small children, they will get bored and we didn't see one.
If you plan to be out all day this would be great.
The staff is lovely though if anything is wrong they will do their best to fix it.

Location is excellent and central as it is right across the road from the Botanical Gardens which are next to the Brisbane River and it is within a 10-minute walk of the CBD, major shopping areas such as the Queen Street Mall and Myer Centre and Eagle Street Pier restaurants and Sunday markets.

Apartment was a good size and had fabulous views of parklands and river.
TV is not digital.
Bed was very uncomfortable, hard and could be so much better.
Parking is undercover.
Pool area is quite nice and pool is heated. In my view the pool is not deep enough for adults to have a good swim as you can stand up in it. Suited to children.
Spa is heated and looks great but I couldn't get in it for all the children using it.
No wifi available.
Internet access is by public computer in foyer which lacks privacy and denies access to some business sites.

Small intimate restaurant adjacent foyer served good food (it handles room service as well). Both breakfast, lunch and dinner was delicious.

Check in and check out was sleek and efficient.

The body corporate or the owners that do not live here save money by having the trash removed in the middle of the night. They have the bottle recycle trucks to pull up at 3:15 every Monday morning to bang and crash then the grab the trash at 4:30 Tuesday morning. Be still your heart and never stay here.

This was a beatfiul hotel. Staff were warm and friendly. The roomservice, while not cheap, was extremely good, and better than the food we had in Brisbane itself. The views of the park and gardens were beautiful, and the balcony awesome. However the televisions were small and channel selection was limited. The rooms while nice and spatious but felt a bit tired and dated. The cheap, buzzing flourescent light fixture in the bathroom was not impressive, my towel rack fell apart, and the shower nozzel would not hold it's position.

But most importantly, the spring mattress beds were painful to the point that I got little sleep the first night. The second night I did a bit better, waking up from the pain and switching sides. Driving home at weekend's end, both of us were sore and tired. I spent 11 hours sleeping and still do not feel rested. The pool, sauna, and facilities were gorgeous. I just don't see why they stuff this up with cheap beds as most everything else was very nice. Cheap beds are not acceptable at this pricepoint.
