“Go to the Mercure next door.”
Reviewed October 28, 2013 credit card Amex Card Member Review

The rooms are quite stuffy and there are few amenities. The buffet breakfast was pretty awful. I spent a week here on business and the following week I booked into the Mercure which is right next door. It was a good move.

Dear AussieWandering,

Thank you for taking the time to review your recent experience with us at the Hotel Ibis Brisbane.
I am of course very disappointed to learn that your stay did not meet your expectations, particularly in relation to the room features, amenities and buffet breakfast. Your invaluable comments are very important to us as they allow us to maintain the high standards of quality, service and comfort for which the Ibis is renowned. If you could kindly contact me via email or phone, with the exact details of your stay, we would like to investigate the matter personally.

Kind regards,

For a budget hotel, I was quite impressed.

Pros:
- clean
- tea and coffee making facilities
- firm mattress
- spacious room and bathroom for a single
- quick check in
- ironing board (with iron!) in room
- good location just off George St and ~ 500m walk from Roma train station (from which there is a direct train line to the airport for about $30 return. Train well air conditioned and wifi in some spots)
- sensational restaurant 'Public' is literally just across the road (go up escalators on the corner)
- 7/11 is also on the corner in case you need anything

Cons:
- check out took a little while as there were lots of people checking out and two people on reception (not much they can do about that I guess)
- bar fridge is only half standard size and there's nothing in it. However I think they sell some 'bar fridge packs' at the reception
- wifi was $24.95 for 24 hours which is ridiculous
- unusual that there was no manual in the room with guides or instructions. I would've liked to know some bascis (like about the bar fridge packs!).

TIPS:
- when I looked at the train stops from the airport, it looked like another train station was closer (maybe Central Station?) but the hotel webiste said some from Roma. Now I know why! Roma - downhill walk. Other train station - up hill and down dale. No good with luggage!

Booked this hotel as a mystery hotel as I have stayed at many Ibis' before and I thought that Brisbane would reflect the same quality.

Instead, I was given the air-conditioning floor special, taking the lift to the top floor you then had to manually walk up to the floor which houses the air conditioning units. Somehow they have renovated this floor to fit in a fair amount of rooms along with the utilities.

The room itself was okay, but having tradies walk around outside your window at 6am in the morning and making plenty of noise was very disappointing.

Having one person at the desk during morning check out ensures you have a very long wait.

We have stayed in this hotel previously and did not enjoy our stay because we in a room near the lifts and it was a bit noisy. This time we rang reception the day before our arrival and asked for a room away from the lifts. When we booked into we were given a room on the 16th floor with not lifts, very quiet and spacious. The lifts are only upto the 15th floor and if you don't mind walking the few steps up I would recommend you accept the rooms on the 16th floor. The rooms are very clean and spacious. The staff as usual are very friendly and helpful and the hotel is about 10 to 15 minutes walk to the Queen Street Mall, Central Station and the Treasury Casino. The restuarant is not open for dinner on Saturday and Sunday nights.

Room Tip: Rooms on the 16th Floor are very quiet
