Owner description: THE JEWEL IN THE CROWN OF SOUTH EAST QUEENSLAND'S HISTORIC HOMES... One of the most prominent homes in our history, the iconic landmark was built in 1846 and has been occupied by some of Brisbane's most influential colonial figures including Patrick Leslie, Captain John Clements Wickham and George Harris. Newstead House, Brisbane's oldest surviving residence is the jewel in the crown of South East Queensland's historic properties. Now operating as a living museum, the grand home is furnished to reflect the occupation of the Harris family, who were in residence between 1862 and 1890. We invite you to take in the magnificent views as you wander the generous verandas & explore the history of our grand home. Discover another world, located minutes from the CBD.

A fun morning out with kids taking a step back in time finished up with a picnic in the park adjacent.

“Nice View on the River”

Newstead House Park is a small park at the mouth of the Breakfast Creek. You will see the traffic on the Brisbane River from here. Tropical trees and plants will server for shadow in the summer sun.

“Timeless place”

Newstead House is on the banks of the Brisbane River in Newstead. The house is an iconic landmark in Brisbane and has always been special to me as that is where my parents were married. Interesting historical site with a beautiful garden and lawn area running down to the banks of the Brisbane River.

“Interesting and historic”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 4, 2013

We enjoyed this rare piece of history in Brisbane. The staff were extremely helpful in explaining the history of the house and its surrounds, and there is plenty to see here. I particularly enjoyed the servants' quarters in the basement, which were very atmospheric. A hugely underrated tourist attraction in my opinion.
