Owner description: THE JEWEL IN THE CROWN OF SOUTH EAST QUEENSLAND'S HISTORIC HOMES... One of the most prominent homes in our history, the iconic landmark was built in 1846 and has been occupied by some of Brisbane's most influential colonial figures including Patrick Leslie, Captain John Clements Wickham and George Harris. Newstead House, Brisbane's oldest surviving residence is the jewel in the crown of South East Queensland's historic properties. Now operating as a living museum, the grand home is furnished to reflect the occupation of the Harris family, who were in residence between 1862 and 1890. We invite you to take in the magnificent views as you wander the generous verandas & explore the history of our grand home. Discover another world, located minutes from the CBD.

“A historical delight close to the city”
Reviewed September 9, 2012

Newstead House is a charming historical site by the river with a pleasant and restful garden. It is very popular with locals for family and social events. And for wedding celebrations too. The garden is not grand or lavish, it is unpretentious and pleasant. A lovely "get-away" park that is worth the effort to stop by and pause amidst life's busy-ness.

“Step back in time”
Reviewed July 29, 2012

A short walk from one of Brisbane's icons, the Breakfast Creek hotel (the Brekky Creek), like stepping back in time, wander around the gardens with great views as it is on the banks of the Brisbane River. See if you can feel the ghost, it still gives me shivers!

“A hint of yesteryear”
Reviewed June 1, 2012

Great place to get an insight of what it was like to live in Brisbane as an early (albeit wealthy) settler. Beautiful location right on the river.
