“You can spend hours here”

Take the bus from town to Mt. Coot-tha gardens. The grounds are gorgeous, and its really quiet up there. It was a nice respite from the busy city, and the selection of plants is very broad. This botanical garden outshines the gardens we visited in both Melbourne and Sydney. One caution, if you're taking the bus. If you catch it at the bus terminus near the train station, the bus driver may change the bus number between the time he/she pulls in and when the bus departs. We had this happen and had to wait 30 minutes for the next bus. Try catching the bus on Adelaide St. if you want to avoid this situation.

“Close to the city”
Reviewed March 8, 2013

Just walk straight into them from the city - all free. They are beautiful and when you walk through you go straight to the river. Lovely for walks any time - if the weather is better than we had!

“Attractive and pleasant”
Reviewed March 6, 2013

Not spectacular - the Roma parklands are probably more interesting, but you can still spend a couple of pleasant hours wandering the Gardens and checking out some of the historic buildings on the fringe of the Gardens (apparently these managed to survive the Bielke-Petersen era, but it was a close-run thing I was told by a local)

“A hidden gem”
Reviewed March 3, 2013

I have lived in Brisbane since 1990 and only just visited the Botanical Gardens this weekend. The gardens are very well maintained and a great place to see a variety of plant life. Even on a cloudy rainy day it was a great place to spend an afternoon. Cant wait to go back when its sunny for a picnic there. Would be a great place to get married on one of the 3 lawns they have.
