“Great location, good hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 20, 2007

We picked the Marriott because of its proximity to Brisbane's CBD and for the potential views of the river. We had a room on the 26th floor and the vista looking out over Kangaroo Point and the Gabba were all I could have asked for. Watching sunrises reflected on the glass fronted skyrises of Eagle Street was an amazing experience too. The hotel is situated very close to Eagle Street with its Sunday market, plenty of really good restaurants and the river cat. The cat takes you to New Farm where you can explore Chinatown & The Valley. If you feel energetic, get the cat up to Bulimba and have breakfast, lunch or dinner - you won't be disappointed. The hotel is an easy river walk to the Botanic Gardens too.

The hotel is what you'd expect a Marriott to be - large, comfortable but inevitably impersonal. It has all the usual amenties but its business centre rates for using the internet are outrageous - around $9 for 15 minutes! A walk to the nearest internet cafe was the answer given we weren't taking a lap top around with us on our travels.

So, overall, it's all you'd expect but not more, and therefore a good, not a great recommendation.

My wife and I stayed at the Brisbane Marriott on 5th. and 6th. August 2007. The hotel is in a perfect position in the CBD, close to the Queen Street shopping mall and the Brisbane River, where there is an excellent boardwalk and many good restaurants with river views. We arrived by taxi and were processed speedily and pleasantly by the concierge and at reception. Our room on the 17th. floor was medium sized but well appointed, with a city view. The room was at the end of a corridor, and was very quiet. We used the small swimming pool on the 4th. floor, where there were also saunas, a spa and gym. We had dinner on our first night (a Sunday) at the hotel's "Petries Brasserie", where a buffet was on offer. This attracted diners who were not hotel guests, and the restaurant was full. Whilst the food was extensive and varied, I must comment that restaurant tables were positioned far too close to one another. As diners were continuously rising from their chairs and pushing them back to access the food, it become most difficult to find a path through tables, chairs and people back to one's own table. And there was no chance of any conversational confidentiality, so close were other diners seated. The problem would be easily solved by removing some tables and chairs from the restaurant. Breakfasts were in this same area, but without a full house each morning, the problems of the Sunday evening did not occur. I would happily give the Marriott a 4.5 star rating. It is a good hotel, but it would be an exaggeration to call it great.

Wonderful! This was the first word I said when I entered the lobby. I knew I had a good feeling of the place already and the aura was warm and welcoming. Not too ritzy but that was alright as it's not intimidating. I highly praised the staff from the reception and concierge who were very helpful during our stay. We managed to get a room even when we arrived too early from the check in time and that was a plus for the hotel management who knows how to look after their guests. The room is huge and well kept. The bathroom is also clean. The bed is heaven, I loved it!

It was an amazing stay and thanks to the others who posted their reviews about this hotel, yes I would definitely stay here again.

I like everything about this hotel. I was so impressed with the fact that every staff there made an effort to remember my name, attendtive to my every need. The room was clean, spacious, comfortable and well maintained. The gym equipments are new and well maintained.

Unfortunately, I didn't like the seafood buffet in the restaurant, some of the food there look a bit dry and unfresh. However, the breakfast (room service) was excellent.

Booked through wotif.com for one night before flying home to NZ. Have
stayed in Marriotts before when travelling for work and holidays, but
not in this particular hotel, so no particular surprises with the room or the hotel facilities.

Because we came in late afternoon and left at 5.00am the next morning, we probably didn't get value for money in that we didn't use the pool/gym etc. Looked like a nice pool though. The room was fine, and location nice although further towards the Storey (?) bridge than we normally stay. A great walk along the riverside takes you past a lot of restaurants and bars.

We ate at the hotel restaurant and had a pleasant dinner. Staff both
in the restaurant and at reception were friendly and helpful.

Would stay here again if we wanted a hotel and were going to be in Brisbane for 2-3 days.

Great location, quality accomodation / food and very smart service - a solid and professional place to stay in Brisbane - cannot recommend enough.

We had a room on the 22nd floor overlooking river / city and it was spotless and comfortable.

The staff are superb - that makes a big difference these days, Highly recommended.
