Description: A place where the old world of beautiful french chairs, lamps and gold glamour is paired with an eclectic music ambience, all turned upside down by amazing modern dishes or a stylish pasta or even risotto. Well-priced with plenty of personality.

After reading the reviews, I was really looking forward to dining here.
We went on Friday night for the Deer Duck set menu. The ambience & setting is wonderful, the service friendly & attentive. 1st course of the shared platter was nice, nothing spectacular but quite nice. Onto the mains, my Wagyu strip was cooked to perfection & delicious. My partners main of the Rabbit penne however, was rather bland & swimming in olive oil. Edible but not all that enjoyable. For the next course of cheeses, I can only imagine that the wheels had fallen off in the kitchen as, after 40 minutes, we had to chase them up. Better than the table next to us who chased up their mains, only to be told that the kitchen had lost their order. Again, the wait staff were wonderful, following up on our meals & the table next to us. Our cheese platter was fine. Again, nothing special. A couple of wedges of cheese, some dried fruit & a long crisp wafer. Desserts were a mixed bag. The decontructed cheesecake was disappointing but the tiramisu was fabulous. For the price, I expected something wonderful. What we got was a nice enough meal but nothing worth returning for.

“$Dear Duck Bistro”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 1, 2013

We had been looking forward to dining at Deer Duck Bistro and went with several friends.
The decor was different and we had a very spacious table.
Fridays and Saturdays it is a set price menu of $75 we expected a quality meal of reasonable proportions, we were disappointed.
Our entrees took an hour and a quarter to arrive and it was quite small.
The mains were of inconsistent size, our friends received a small portion of food whereas ours was adequate. The menu offered five main courses, in fairness our table only ordered two of the five.

The dessert was so small it was akin to a sampler plate size.

The service we received was poor, our repeated requests for wine to be topped up was ignored and we noted the table around us suffered the same fate.

First visit was sublime, great service, great food and fantastic setting... Brought back some business customers to try and sadly the experience was no way as pleasurable... maybe a different chef, but has sealed there fate with us... :(

“Extremely disappointing”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 14, 2013

We came here for the Valentine's day set menu after reading many promising reviews, but sadly were very disappointed and frustrated.

For starters, the service was extremely slow - it took us about 20 minutes just to get bread (which was advertised as "house baked" but was at best 4 slices of half stale supermarket baguette), and after an hour we had only had our entrée.

The food was nicely presented and sounded fancy, but lacked any interesting flavour - certainly not worth the $100 it cost for the set 3 course Valentine's Day menu. The menu with matched wine was $145, which is what we ordered. This included only TWO glasses of wine; one with the entrée and one with the main. Definitely NOT worth $22.50 per glass - something you would expect only at a Michelin Star restaurant.

All of the couples in our part of the restaurant (around 7 couples) were audibly disappointed, many complaining to the manager for the same reasons listed above. All in all a terrible dining experience and very frustrating considering the price, although we only ended up paying $100 due to the many complaints.

“Brilliant”

Top restaurant. Food delish, service impeccable, decor amazing. Small so you need to book. BYO at the moment - so it is very affordable. Tucked in the shops at Milton Rd Auchenflower it is definitely a neighbourhood gem.
