The hotel is in a great location to shopping/Queen Street Mall/restaurants etc. And if you're lucky enough to get one of the rooms with a view of the river, it's really quite spectacular.
The rooms, while a bit worn and dated, are much larger than you might expect and feel more like an apartment than a hotel so that's great! And unlike some of the other apartment-type hotels in Brisbane, the Oaks has a full size (4 burner) stove. All of this makes the hotel a decent place to stay.
The downside is the staff. Unfriendly, unattentive, unconcerned. Really, they're not rude, they're just completely unhelpful and unwilling to do anything extra to make your stay more comfortable. It's too bad really because with a bit more TLC coming from the staff, this could be the 'go-to' hotel in Brisbane.More
