“Great apartments, very central”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 1, 2013

I stayed here with my family in October while we attended a wedding. We got the two bedroom suite which was great. The apartment was very large, modern and clean. it had a wonderful balcony that faced out to the Story Bridge. The location is fabulous. Only a short walk to Queen Street Mall! The full equipped kitchen was great for breakfast, as we didn't have to go out and spend money on this. The pool in the complex was also great for the hot days. The only downfall was the elevator which took soooo long to come, especially in the morning on the weekend. And the Internet is super expensive, but this seems to be an Australia hotel wide issue!
I would definitely recommend this place, especially for families who need more space.

Thank you very much for your positive feedback in relation to your recent stay at Aurora Tower. We really appreciate your kind words. I apologise if you found the internet access expensive. Please rest assured our charges are similar to those our competitors. We look forward to welcoming you back to Aurora Tower in the not too distant future.

This is a hotel that is half owned units. If some of the owned ones are not being used the hotel can sublease for owners. The rooms are very sparsely decorated. They are supposed to be fully self contained, ours had one glass, no spare towels and most of all no curtains.
Room 161 is within meters of a major office with all the daytime works getting a full view into your apartment.
Lifts are very slow and ofeten so full when they arrive you have to wait for next one.

Room Tip: Go elsewhere

Thank you for feedback in relation to your recent stay at Oaks Aurora. it is dissapointing to hear your stay did not live up to your expectations. For the record, we're in the process of upgrading apartments at Oaks Aurora so as to lift the standard of the accommodation throughout the building. For the most part we'll be upgrading carpets, paint and window furnishings the latter of which will address the privacy issues you referred to in yuor review. Because all of the aparments in the building are individually owned by investors unfortunately there are a lot of variables at the moment in terms of furnishings and apartment fitouts otherwise, a problem we hope to have addressed shortly. Ordinarily Oaks is very strict when it comes to adhering to branding commitments and uniformity so please don't let your first impressions leave a negative picture of Oaks Aurora in your mind. I'm confident your next visit will be a much more enjoyable one. it goes without saying I would like to personally manage your reservation if you elect to stay with us again. Once again, thank your feedback. This has been very helpful.

Appalling does not even begin describe the apparent lack of standards at this inner city establishment. The staff at the front desk could learn a thing or two about customer service, although it would not make much of a difference to my rating of ZERO. Check out the photos ... the place is filthy and I had to sleep with my street clothes on ... bathroom covered in mould, probably without any cleaning for a good month or so, massive stains on carpet, bedsheets from the last century ! Queensland Health might like to investigate ... do not stay here ... I suggest you check out the Marriott just around the corner. They don't seem to have a problem with finding cleaners.

Room Tip: Book another hotel nearby.

My wife and family stayed at the Oaks Aurora over Australia Day long weekend. Despite the weather, our stay was fantastic. We arrived early on the Thursday, and check in was smooth and fast, and with no hassles at all. Carparking was easy, and once in our room, the view was amazing. The 2 bedroom apartment was clean and spacious. The location of the Oaks Aurora made it easy for us to catch a ferry to South Bank, or walk down to Queen Street mall for shopping. Eagle street restuarants and the Pig n Whistle hotel were nearby, providing exceptional food and drink choices. A great place to stay, and will be returning later this year.

After booking the 2 bedroom apartment online months prior. we got there and the rooms were not like what was advertised on the internet. When we asked where these rooms are we were told they were the old ones and the photos have not been up dated. "Heated" pool not likely, 2 days in a row checked pool and spa and are cold as. Could not take kids swimming. Parking $25 a night with minimal parking spaces and very hard to obtain one as none are booked for your room, find one if you can. Most times we ended up on level 4 or 5 of the carpark. Overall for the price we paid to stay in Oaks I certainly would never recomend this property or possibly stay in another oaks again. Will stick to other brands we use. Overall the rooms were still nice to stay in just not what we had booked or paid for or family friendly.

Thank you for your feedback. This is most appreciated. I apologise if the accommodation you were provided with is not what you had envisioned at the time of booking. I understand from our previous email conversation that you're referring to the abscence of a bathtub and river views. As mentioned, the photo's you provided to me in a previous email are indicative only and don't necessarily represent all apartments in the building. Not all apartments at Aurora Tower have bath tubs nor do they all boast river views. In the absence of river views however we have some fantastic city views. I apologise also if the carparking function has been difficult for you. Our website does make reference to the need to book carparks (if required) at time of making a reservation. Thank you again for your comments. I trust you'll enjoy the remainder of your stay.

We didn't enjoy the accommodation experience very much at all.....
We stayed for three nights this week
The good = Tim the young man on reception who made checking in effortless and always had a smile for us when we were passing through, top work mate!
= Fabulous location!! So very close to queen street mall and eagle street pier/restaurants
= fantastic view of the story bridge, our view was not quite as good as some others but still lovely.

Not so good
- Cleanliness of rooms, they really need to pull it up a notch of two
For example vacuum behind furniture & into corners, clean mould/shower scum from edges and clean marks or doors/high traffic areas in rooms.... I do realize housekeepers work very hard and a lot is expected of them, but I even made bed and did dishes etc each day to make thier job easier so they might have time to clean shower properly, but no luck :(
Please make beds with proper bedspreads or duvets, I don't want to see the stains all over the duvet inner!! I was not impressed the next day when I seen all the old stains, but too late we had already slept in the bed, so no point getting bedding changed now.
- front desk staff, try smiling or saying hello when your guests work past!!!

Unsure whether we would return ...

Please note service from Tim was more than excellent, but below average for other staff.
Average from girl who checked us out, although she didn't even ask if we were happy with accommodation or whether we enjoyed our stay!

Room Tip: We were in room 369.

Thank you for your feedback with respect to your recent stay at Aurora Tower. It is dissapointing to hear that cleaning standards at the time were unacceptable. Judging by your comments there were some obvious shortcomings. Please rest assured this is not typical of our cleaning standard. I have forwarded your comments to our executive housekeeper for review and address. Thank you for your kins words about Tim. I will be sure to pass these on to him. Furthermore I will try and ascertain the other staff member you referred to and speak to them also. Thank you again for your feedback. this has been invaluable.

My partner and I decided to spend a weekend in Brisbane to visit friends and we spent 2 nights at Oaks Aurora in a One Bedroom Apartment.

We requested a high room and were very lucky to be put on the 34th floor overlooking the river and Story Bridge. The room was stunning and the view was beautiful, especially in Brisbane where it's often ugly skyscrapers as far as the eye can see. It was like having our own luxury apartment and we wish we had stayed longer. The reception staff were very friendly too, particularly Averille who was lovely and all the FO staff seemed happy to help.

The pool was amazing and we were hugely grateful for the air conditioning (we turned up during a heatwave, of course.)

It's a 5 minute walk from Queen St Mall, Woolworths, riverside restaurants and right across from the best patisserie in Brisbane Le Bon Choix. We stocked up on wine, cheese, chocolate and croissants, and had picnics on our balcony every day. It was wonderful.

I have worked in 4 & 5 star hotels for 4 years in Brisbane and Sydney and i'm still trying to understand why people pay so much for tiny rooms and over-priced everything. This was everything we needed at a suspiciously low price - $110 per night - and I will happily go back on our next visit to Brisbane.

Room Tip: Request a higher room on the river side of the hotel, the views are spectacular.
