“YUM YUM YUM!!!”

Best food ever! My favourite restaurant in the world. Have been eating here for years, 2-3 times a month recently and it's always amazing. Tandoori chicken Bhuna is my favourite. Everyone I take here loves it as well. The food is always the same quality. If I lived closer I would eat here at lot more.

“Superb "British" Indian”
Reviewed May 4, 2014

My fifth visit to this restaurant was the same as the previous ones - EXCELLENT! I miss decent curries UK style, but this place always sends me away happy. Quite simply, the food is first class, the staff are excellent and the prices are reasonable. Oh, almost forgot. You can wash down your Ruby Murray with an Old Speckled Hen, Boddies, Tetley, Newcastle Brown Ale etc etc!! What more can you ask for?!!

“Here To Stay!!!”
Reviewed May 4, 2014

We have had countless visits to the Spice Avenue and not once have we ever had a bad word to say.The service is fantastic within minutes of being seated our drink orders have been taken. The staff know us by first name which makes us feel more than welcome. The food is spectacular. We are never disappointed as our meals are always cooked to perfection. The nan is extremely tasty to go with delicious curries that are to die for. The staff go above and beyond for us which we appreciate, even by going to the extent of cutting the tails off our prawn dishes! To top it all off not only does the staff come and have friendly chats, the chef Naz always makes us feel welcome by coming out at the end of our meal to ensure everything was cooked to our exact likings and specifications. Being part Indian and part English i have tasted a lot of different types of indian cuisines, none have ever come close to what this restaurant has to offer. Need less to say we will be returning to the spice avenue for many years to come. See you next week! (and the week after that)

“Great Food, Great Staff, Great Atmosphere!”
Reviewed May 2, 2014

We're originally from the Midlands so were very interested to try out this British Balti, and very happy to say we were not disappointed.

Our mixed platter entree was delicious with huge chunks of lean chicken. We both had the Balti Chicken Tikka Masala and again this totally lived up to our expectations and more.

All waitresses were polite and obliging, with a constant smile.

We chatted to the chef Naz who was a warm, friendly and grew up in the same area we did!

On the whole, we had a great night with great food and will definitely be going back again soon.

“disappointing given recent reviews on Tripadvisor”
Reviewed April 24, 2014

when looking for a good quality indian in the area, we found Spice Avenue, and although out of the way a bit when we're in the northern suburbs this seemed like a journey worth making.

upon arrival it looked promising and we were very excited to try the food. (even though it's in a very cheesey british shopping area. and this is coming from a brit)

we had onion bhajis for entree which were fantastic best quality bhajis we've had in a long time. this is a great start!!! very excited for main now.

i ordered Chicken Tikka Massala as havent been able to find an indian restaurant in Oz that can do a proper thick red chicken tikka massala like in the UK.

the curry came out in a good portion and was a thick orangey sauce.

upon trying it the only taste i could pick up was tomato. it honestly tasted like chicken in tomato soup. could not pick up any spices or anything in it. the chicken "tikka" had no indication it had been marinaded in tikka spices just tasted like fried diced chicken.

I will say the Naan was good quality aswell.

overall was left very underwhelmed ....we have an award winning indian in Ashgrove and thought we'd try something new for a change ....was not worth the trouble, time or effort to travel there.

we know a few people who swear by this restaurant so we may return to try another in time but at the moment i would be very reluctant to give them my custom again.

Dear Lee

We are disappointed to hear that you did not enjoy your recent visit to our establishment.
We fully understand & appreciate that all dinners have their opinions & we also recognise that the food may not satisfy or meet the expectations of every dinner that walks through the door.

After reading your review several times, we actually noticed that 3 out of the 4 points you mentioned were positive. You enjoyed the Naan breads, the onion bhajis & you also found the restaurant to look promising. It appears to us that we received a poor rating based on the Chicken Tikka Masala - which you did not enjoy & we hope you return to try something different on the menu, as you may have noticed the menu is extensive.

The Chicken Tikka Masala is actually our most popular dish & we sell a minimum of 120L of that sauce each week. As it is the national dish of the UK it is a dish that is on every order we cook. Our customers which are 90% British & come from all over the UK find our food to be the closest comparison to their local back home. Although we are British Indian Cuisine we will not be exactly the same as your local back home (there are over 9000 indian restaurants in the UK), they all cook slightly differently.
Our Chicken Tikka Masala is based on the Birmingham & Glasgow recipe:
Glasgow is the curry capital of the UK & Chicken Tikka Masala was invented in Glasgow, Birmingham is the Balti capital of the UK which invented Balti.
We will admit that we have had a similar comment in the past but only from Australian customers who expect the Chicken Tikka Masala to be more of a Zalfrezi or Bhuna - which is what you get when you order this dish in Australian Indian Restaurants.

We can however spice up the Chicken Tikka Masala to your liking should you wish for it to have more bite, unfortunately our recipe is unchanged & famous across Birmingham, Glasgow & now Brisbane so should you dine again we highly recommend that you try something else.
The chef/owner would love to discuss your experience further so please do not hesitate to contact the restaurant directly.

Kind Regards
Saleem Islam
