My husband & I flew to Brisbane mid-week for a work conference he was attending at the BCEC. Evolution Apartments was an easy 8 minute walk to the BCEC. Check in was quick and easy, and the apartment was ready when we arrived. We didn't have a river view, but we knew that when we booked so we had realistic expectations. The city view we had was literally of a few high rise buildings nearby. In fact, one of the buildings was so close we could nearly read the computer screen on an office desk, from our apartment window!

The actual apartment looked and felt new, well maintained, clean and tidy. It had a fully equipped kitchen (which we didn't really use), as well as a laundry cupboard, iron & ironing board, lots of clothes drawers & hanging space in the built-in wardrobe. The bedroom was small but adequate for a short stay. It had a comfortable queen size bed and the linen & towels were changed each day. We had a small living/dining area, which had dining table, lounge, coffee table and a large, flat-screen digital TV in the living area. There was a sizeable balcony off the living area. The bathroom was clean, with an over-bath shower and very quiet exhaust fan.

The staff were relatively helpful and friendly, but not with the professionalism of a 4-5 star establishment. The vibe from them is more that they're there to do a job and provide a basic, albeit helpful service, but not to go above-and-beyond for their guests, which is a shame because it makes you not want to contact reception unless you really really have to. One thing to mention is that if you want to request late check-out, call up around 6.30/7am to ensure you get it. We spoke with reception the night before our departure, and he said "I'm not able to do it for you now, but just speak with reception in the morning, and I'm sure it'll be fine." We woke up at 8am and called reception to request an extension to our check-out, but were told that they'd already received the quota of requests that morning so he wasn't able to extend our check-out. When I told him we'd actually requested it the night before, he apologised but repeated what he'd said and explained that housekeeping won't have enough time to clean all the apartments beyond their quota for extensions. Fair point, but we did ask the night before. Anyway, there's a little tip for you!

There's a cafe next door where you can eat a variety of cooked breakfasts but not much in the way of continental breakfast. However the apartment block is really close to the CBD where you can walk for 5 minutes and find another place to eat if you prefer.

All in all, a good stay. Compared to the prices of other 4-5 star hotels we looked at, Evolution was good value, and if I'm being honest, just shy of 4 stars, but pretty close. We'd be happy to come back and stay here at a reasonable rate.

We stayed on the 20th floor in an one-bedroom apartment. The location is perfect walking distance to any area within Brisbane downtown. There is a pedestrian bridge outside the hotel. We just missed the Brisbane Festival light show; however, I am sure the view would have been great. There is a market on Saturdays across the river. I am not sure if this happens every Saturday, but it was a great place to pick up gifts. The cable television had all the channels you need (NFL). The hotel provides two newspapers every morning. I am glad we spent the money to stay here. It was worth it. My only complaint was the delayed taxi service, but this probably was not the hotel's fault. It however did make us late for an important party. I would stay again!

Room Tip: Head down to Queensland Mall for grocery shopping (Coles). You can pick up all your food needs. Don't buy laundry soap because they provide it. The higher the floor the better. We had nice view the river and pool area.

On arrival we were not impressed by the girl who checked us in. She seemed a little annoyed that we had arrived at 1.30pm to check in - even though she was able to let us check in as our room was early. She didn't really explain anything, just handed over the cards, told us where to park and that was it.

Air conditioning was hard to work out at first.

The apartment itself was great. Amazing view over the river - great balconies. Great location - very central to the city, and an easy walk to South Bank

Spacious apartment that was clean and tidy. Great views! It's about 10 minute wall to the main shopping mall down George Street and about 25 minute walk to South Bank area (nice public swimming and kids play area). But, if you like a firm bed, you might not get one here, the room I had the bed was really soft.

We stayed two nights in a one bedroom apartment, right on the river and next to a pedestrian bridge over the Brisbane River, linking to The Arts Centre and the fabulous SouthBank. When we entered it was a Wow from both of us, the view was spectacular and only improved when the night lights went on. The layout and condition of the apartment was terrific, as were the reception staff. Paying an extra $20/ night to park our vehicle was not a problem as we managed to get a very good deal on the rate. Check out The SkyBar on the 36th floor. Looks like a great place to hang out if travelling with others. we are still talking about how fabulous our week-end in Brisbane was.

Room Tip: One room apartments are not on the riverside but ours was a corner room and the view was fabulous.
