I originally booked a double room for two nights as I was unsure of how long I would be staying in Brisbane. On arrival we were met by the owener who was very friendly and even offered to carry our bags. The double and twin rooms are situated away from the main building where the dorms are and the buildings are seperated by a pool. Each of the buildings had a lounge with TV and a kitchen. We made good use of these facilities and it was nice to sit back and relax after a day of sightseeing and not have to sit in your room. The room itself was a good size with a very comfortable bed. Each room also has a fridge which is excellent for storing food and water.

The rooms, communal areas and outdoor areas were always very clean and I saw the cleaner everyday. The staff are very helpful and friendly as well as most of the other guests. However there are a high amount of German guests here who are not so friendly. If you are looking for a lively party hostel this is not the place. This is more of a chilled out place which is what we were looking for.

The internet access is only available in the outdoor area by reception at the cost of $5 a day, this was a little confusing as the password for the internet never changed and as an honest person I paid each day but I do think that other people would take advantage as there was no way of monitoring the internet access. There were sometimes also a lack of sockets to be able to use your laptop.

The washing facilities here are also excellent and I always felt that my belongings were safe.

I had to extend my stay in Brisbane and was so happy with the hostel that we stayed for another two nights. On my last night whilst sat outside I heard a rustling and a possom appeared. The owner then told me that one lives near by, this was great to see.

Overall a very good stay

The staff was helpfull and very friendly. Our room was clean and we had our own fridge in the room. The hostel is located close to the centre (walkingdistance). All in all we've had a pleasant stay and would recommend it,

After checking in to this place you could be forgiven for thinking that you had flown into the wrong city and instead ended up making a long haul flight to Dortmund or Munich. This place is run by Germans and as such a vast majority of the clientele are from the Teutonic part of the world. This isn't a problem if you don't mind the obvious manner differences between the English and Germans (the staff are unbelievably friendly this statement applies to who we were staying with at the time) we did feel a little overwhelmed by the german presence which we dealt with. The other people staying here were made up of Irish workers, they were very friendly but were always in bed by 9 making us feel guilty for staying up late. All in all this place felt like a kind if workers bunk house rather than a hostel but we still enjoyed it and if you can go as a couple it works out incredibly cheap. A lot cleaner than most hostels and with it's own cooking facilities I would definitely recommend it

We stayed at Aussieway for 5 nights and instantly felt at home. Orla and Annie (2 of the staff) were great fun and really accommodating. We shared a twin room which was clean and comfortable. The kitchen was spotless and cleaned every day and everything you needed. The only downsides were the early curfew (residential area) and the very thin walls which meant being woken up by upstairs getting up for work at 5am. We would definitely stay here again, 5 days well spent.

O.K....So we're on the on the other side of 50, not party animals but active and sociable. One half of the partnership is fairly well travelled, the other one is fussy.(Don't tell him that!) We stayed in a double room with shared bathroom. They were spotless. Only older guests might appreciate this but there were all the quilts freshly laundered, hanging on the line. The pool was sparkling and 4 times as big as the one at an up market hotel where we were paying about 4 times as much!!!! Amenities all practical and both staff and travellers were friendly.(Often younger tavellers treat us older ones as if they'll catch old age if they get too close!)
Close (2 mins. walk) to an excellent selection of reasonable cafes/bars and restaurants, yet in such a quiet position compared to the many other hostels in the vicinity. We walked to all Brisbane's wonderful parks, museums and galleries with no problems. Thanks all for a lovely, (if too short) stay.
Cheers
Helen

just a ten minute walk (up hill unfortunatly) from the transit centre and 15-20 from CBD,
5 mins from Coles and a good strips of bars and shopping.
Staff are really friendly and really go out of their way to make you feel welcome two girls one German one Irish made sure we were welcomed with smiles and a run down of fun things to do in Brisbane.
Has a few long term guests so it has a very homey atmosphere and everyone makes sure your included.
Beautiful pool and bedrooms no more than four beds in a dorm.
The kitchen is more suited to a galley on a boat but kept clean by staff downside is that it closes at night.
Situated in a residential area so its very quiet at night and it is made clear that its not a party hostel so dont go if your just around for drinking and partying.
One of the best hostels Ive stayed in so far.

Room Tip: All dorms are four beds (that I'm aware of) but they have great doubles in the back house...

Likes: This hostel is not too far from the Roma St transit centre. The kitchen facilities and communal areas are quite nice with TV and magazines etc available. There is a pool and garden area. The room was standard but fine. Most of the staff were quite friendly bar one (see below!!)

Dislikes: We were greeted with a massive list of verbal, and visual, warnings and rules upon arrival by a very fed-up looking lady. Not what you want when you are jet lagged. It was the hostel we stayed in with the most rules, but other hostels with fewer rules were just as quiet and clean. It seemed to attract a lot of people who were there long term so can't imagine easily meeting other travellers who are just passing through. Had to wait for the bathroom on quite a few occasions as only one per unit.
Lots of slamming of doors and noise late at night and somebody constantly switched the TV on then left it on all day even though we never saw them watching it. Again, perhaps the sign of a long-term guest?!
