“I agree with reviews - inexpensive but good option in Brisbane”
Reviewed July 30, 2013

I only stayed here one night, but I enjoyed it. I arrived quite early, but the lovely woman (owner, I assume) at reception allowed me to check-in early so I could maximize my time in Brisbane. It feels like a hostel in a way -- there are private bedrooms, but communal bathrooms and a kitchen for everyone to use. There is also a nice patio off the kitchen to sit, check emails (free wifi!!!!), and relax. I am fairly sure I heard a Kookaburra bird singing (or "laughing" as they do) the morning I was leaving...Must explain the name of the place! I would gladly stay here again.

Room Tip: I think most or all of the rooms are on the first floor, so you have to be prepared to go down stair...

This is an affordable place to stay, and offers the essentials only for an essentials price. Sink with only cold water in the room, fridge in the room. Toilets and showers are separate. This would be a great place to stay when it's warm in Brizzy but unfortunately when I arrived it was very grim outside, leading to a cold and damp experience inside. Friendly staff.

This hostel is affordable and in a good location just a 10 minute walk from the city. The staff there are extremely friendly and very welcoming. It is an ideal place to stay for mature travellers who want to enjoy Brisbane but still get a good nights sleep. Very quiet and the rooms are quite comfortable for the price. I will definitely stay there again whenever I go to Brisbane in future.

I stayed at the Kookaburra Inn for two weeks when I first arrived in Brisbane. I'd had fairly mixed experience of hostels before so didn't know what to expect, but chose the Kookaburra because it was the cheapest I could find near the centre of town. I needn't have worried, the Kookaburra was great. It's only a 10 minute walk from the centre of town but there is a supermarket and plenty of places to get food within the Spring Hill area anyway. The rooms are simple but clean and tidy, with a bed, hangers for clothes, a desk, a sink and your own fridge in the room, which is very handy in hot weather. The staff are really friendly and respond quickly to any problems, not that there were many. The shared areas like the kitchen, showers and living area are well maintained and clean, with everything you could need. I was very impressed for the price and will definitely be back one day.

Room Tip: If you go in the summer you'll want a room with aircon, but all rooms come with a fan which was...

The Kookaburra is definitely no-frills, budget accommodation, but it does have a few things going for it. Despite looking rather rough around the edges, the place is clean, the owner is friendly, and the beds were comfortable. Compared to other budget accommodation in inner-city Brisbane, the noise levels aren't too bad; there is very little traffic noise, and due to the building having brick construction rather than the usual wooden 'Queenslander' style, you don't have to endure every nuance of noise from neighboring rooms. The location is also very central. This is my second stay here and I may well be back again.

We stayed for one night. Excellent friendly service. Close to shops and town. Rooms and facilities dated but clean. Everything you need for standard cooking provided. Rooms small but fine for a short stay. We were by kitchenette and bathroom so a bit noisy but again not a problem for a short stay. Air con good and great to have fridge and basin in room. Wireless patchy but got there in the end. Good value for what you pay.

I have stayed at Kookaburra several times over the past year, with one stay of a fortnight. Consistently friendly, helpful, very clean, comfortable. Owners are attentive to small things and go the extra mile. Seems to attract mostly Nice Others, too. The location is perfectly central between city and the Valley in a very quiet street. I will always come back!

Room Tip: Brisbane's hottest months Nov-Mar, choose rooms on southern side which are slightly cooler. Roo...
