well kept grounds and gardens and pool area - good for socialising. it was an east walk into the shopping and eating areas of Darwin. The staff were pleasant and helpful in helping find my way to the night markets.

We stayed in a villa for 8 nights in June 2014. It was away from the main walkway of the resort and was quite & private. Small clean room but ample for what we wanted/needed. Very clean bathroom and comfy bed. Great location with lush gardens that shaded our verandah. Only negative was the loud music/entertainment that came from pub (situated behind the resort) on a few nights. Unfortunately it went on into early hours of the morning and couldn't be blocked out. Also parking at the resort was a problem with insufficient spaces for guest vehicles, on one occasion the receptionist moved her vehicle from the rear carpark to enable us to park our hire car, otherwise all parking on public streets in the vicinity is costly.

We had a lovely 8 day break from Melbournes winter and on advise chose to travel to darwin and stay at this wonderful resort. We had the business villa which was perfect for us. Lovely balcony overlooking the pool. Our friend joined us on day 2 and the respect couldn't have been more accommodating placing us near as possible to each other. Happy yo recommend to anybody. Will be back as soon as possible

Room Tip: Pay extra and choose the business villas.

We stayed at the end of May.
Unfortunately our little boy got sick, but the room service staff were great working around this and trying to cheer up our boy. The day staff on reception were also wonderful, finding us a doctor to take him to.
The hotel is very close to the restaurant strip on Mitchell Street, and is walking distance to the waterfront.

We stayed in a Duplex Villa for 6 nights the first week in June. Room was tidied each day, shower and basin cleaned and toiletries replaced when necessary. Travellers (cms941) should read the Resort guidelines - dishes are the clients' responsibility but if the BBQ is used, that will be cleaned. Reception staff advised on shuttle buses for the market and also the airport.
Instead of complaining via social media, why not tell the management of your concerns?
The pool was superb, cleaned every morning around 7am. Location of the Resort meant an easy stroll on the Reserve opposite, 10 minutes into the Mall and about 15 minutes to the Waterfront.

Room Tip: If you want easy access for a swim, ask for a ground floor Villa facing the pool.

Fifty rooms, 39 villa's, so you know what to expect when you book the Palms City Resort: a pretty huge resort with hardly any personal attention from the staff. And that's exactly what you get. Is that a problem? Not to us.The room was clean and fitted our purposes. The pool was refreshing and not crowdy at all. But most of all it was the price/location ratio that makes Palms City an attractive place to stay: a few minutes walk from Darwin's CBD and the Deckchair Cinema. Using the back entrance we had our flat white's-to-go every morning within two minutes. Which is worth the world if you need a good cup of coffee to really wake up in the morning.

Room Tip: If you have a room on the ground floor, make sure you have your own 'patio' in front of it...

We stayed here for 3 nights in June in one of the Executive suites with an indoor spa (wanted an outdoor but didn't get one).

Cons:
Housekeeping was very poor. Only 1 tiny cake of soap the entire time we were there. We ended up just buying our own. Room did not get cleaned, towels not changed and dishes not washed. Pretty much the only thing they did was make the bed (didn't even do that properly, pillows & throw not put back on) and empty the bin.

The rooms are old and quite dirty. The curtains were actually filthy, a lot of stains with I hate to think what on them and tiny little holes all over, definitely need replacement. The rooms are also very small.

Reception. The one girl at reception we dealt with wasn't very helpful and it felt like we were inconveniencing her

Pro's
Location is great, very central to everything

Breakfast was included with a nice selection of fresh food however having to ask for vouchers at the front desk each day is a bit of a pain, don't know why these couldn't be given at check in like other hotels

Veranda. We were very thankful to have the little veranda to sit outside given the room size and cleanliness

palmsmanager, General Manager at Palms City Resort, responded to this review, June 16, 2014
Dear Guest,
Thank you for taking the time to review your recent stay at Palms City Resort. I do apologise that Housekeeping was not to your expectations. I do not normally receive complaints regarding housekeeping so I will be addressing your concerns with our Housekeeping Manager. Just for your reference we do not wash dishes during a service – we do provide dish washing liquid and tea towels for our guests to be able to do this at their convenience. We also only change the towels if they have been placed on the floor otherwise we assume the guest is happy to reuse them (this is explained on a sign in the bathroom) - as in line with our Environmental Policy. Our guests receive a full clean and linen change every 3 days however as your stay was 3 nights you would not have received this. We are currently in the process of replacing all the curtains (all rooms and some villas have already been replaced). I also find it odd that you found someone at reception unhelpful. Most of the Front Office Team has been at Palms City for years and I get lots of positive feedback. I’m sorry this was not your experience of our team members. I am glad that you enjoyed the resorts location and the buffet breakfast. The reason for the breakfast voucher procedure is that when we previously handed out breakfast vouchers on arrival often the vouchers would be lost or left in the room – requiring a trip back to the room or reception to complete another voucher for the guest. Thanks again for taking the time to provide your feedback.
