“Great customer service”
Reviewed July 18, 2013

Booked on their own website. Excellent customer service when needed to cancel a couple of nights,I received my refund straightaway. They even called me to say that my credit card declined and if it declines again in 12 hours they will call me to inform me. Booked duplex villa but was amazed as we received an outdoor spa as an addition. It was wonderful especially on a hot night. The room included a kitchenette. Yes, the room is on the small size and the bathroom is small and the door knocks onto the bed but otherwise fantastic. We stayed in Room 205 during the middle of the week. It was abit noisy but bearable. Highly recommended. Thank you Palms City Resort.

Room Tip: duplex villa on The Esplanade

Stayed here two nights with my mother in a superior motel room to have twin beds for myself and my mother.

Location is fantastic - one block off Mitchell St, two blocks from Smith St mall (those are short blocks too), pretty close to Information Centre as well, and just over the road is Bicentennial Park where you can look out to the harbour and get a sunset view such as the picture attached to this review.

The room was bigger than expected. Had microwave and toaster as well as usual fridge, jug and tea/coffee supplies. Fly screens over the parts of windows that can be opened Ceiling fan as well as a very effective heatpump/aircon unit.

It was also the best price by far for a hotel that was centrally located. Prices elsewhere were exorbitant, presumably in part because it's school holiday time. Perhaps also as it's more a motel style than hotel style (suits us because we like the microwave and toaster!) and there's no view. However the hotel has a nice tropical setting feel with palms and other foliage between many of the rooms which also gives a sense of being hidden away a bit.

There were minor downsides but not enough to reduce the rating we're giving it.

- No flannels or handtowels. However we both take a flannel with us just in case, and hand towels are not really necessary.

- Shower curtain was very light and water would end up on the bathroom floor. Then again that seems to happen one way or another at many different hotels and motels.

- No internet kiosks at/near reception. I don't have a laptop so WiFi access is no good to me, I rely on internet kiosk style computers and don't mind paying, but there was no option to do so. Closest internet I found is just over a block up Knuckley St at the 24 hour store, $2 for 15 mins or $6 for 1 hour.

If I come back to Darwin I will very likely stay here again!

We enjoyed our stay at Palms City Resort. We were happy with all aspects of our stay, except the music from the nearby pub and club which went on until early morning. We know of course that this is outside the control of the resort. Staff were friendly and helpful and we would recommend this to others.

I booked here for 2 nights, in a duplex villa. The villa was relatively nice, very small, fairly clean, though not perfect. bathroom was tiny, and the door hits the bed everytime you use the bathroom. Street noise was really bad. I needed to use the scanner / fax / email. Reception staff were extremely unhelpful. I was told to go to Chilli backpackers and use their "business" facilities. Well... I did not pay to stay in a hotel that rates them selves as 4 star, to go to a backpackers to use their office facilities. If you want to do business in Darwin, stay at the Hilton or mantra, they might not have villa accommodation, but their facilities and staff are excellent, I usually stay at either of these hotels, and will be staying there on my next stay. Some times if you know a good thing, the is no need to try something different.

We had 5 nights in a "villa" at the Palms City Resort in Darwin in June 2013. They call it a ‘resort’ but in reality it is more like a sprawling motel on a very large plot of prime land. It is not licensed and does not have a restaurant so a resort it is not. However, it is in a great location just on the western fringe of the Darwin CBD and is not without its charm. We were travelling with another couple and booked two ‘villas’ on the same booking, thinking we would be in adjoining units, but no we were some distance apart and despite several requests they wouldn’t/couldn’t move us. The villas turned out to be duplex bungalows no bigger than a typical motel room with very limited hanging/storage space. The saving grace was a nice deck (with an electric BBQ) surrounded by lush gardens and we spent most our time out there. The bedding was fine and the rooms clean so other than being a bit small and erroneously labelled a villa they were quite OK. However next door to the complex is a Sports Bar which had a very loud disco on most of the nights we were there which went on to the very early hours of the morning. The only way around that and to get some sleep was to close up the room and turn on the AC. Next time we would request a room closer to the Esplanade and further away from the disco! The pool area was nice and generally the place was clean and well kept. Overall, the garden setting outweighed the sometimes noisy nights enough for us to give the place a tick. Note that they have normal motel rooms and a small number of individual villas but I can't comment on those.

Room Tip: Rooms closer to the Esplanade should be quieter.

Great location -- close to the harbour, deckchair cinema, and the CBD. The superior motel room was better than expected, although a bit dated and it seemed the floors weren't cleaned. The room was spacious enough, and the balcony was quite nice, with views above the villas which were nice. The smallest villa was not as nice as expected. It was newer, but quite small. The villas have porches, which faces a neighbouring porch. We had loud neighbours which kept us up, which was a bit unfortunate. There was also a surcharge for the Internet, so we didn't use it.

We stayed there in June 2013, in a duplex bungalow. Our room was on the Esplanade side, so although we could hear the music from the pub it wasn't unbearable. Our room was clean and tidy with a good size ensuite. I thought they could have planned the room itself a little better, the bar fridge is right next to the bed ( you can reach it while laying down ) so all night I could hear it coming on and off. We had a good size verandah and an electric bbq, which was great. loved the pool area, although small it was very tropical and the gardens are lovely and well taken care of.

Room Tip: go for a room on the Esplanade side - not as noisy.
