“Would visit again”
Reviewed November 7, 2012

Location is good - away from the main strip of noisy partying backpackers, but close to the park and a short stroll to Deckchair Cinema.

Service is good. Facilities are good, eg/ with the pool easily accessible. Continental breakfast had a decent variety on offer. Clean rooms, clean facilities. We stayed in a normal hotel room (not the bungalows).

Only two minor negatives. Sound-proofing in the rooms is a bit lacking, as I got woken up twice during the night, once by the noisy garbage truck on the street, and another by someone checking in and rolling their suitcases down the verandah.

The other issue was luggage security - it's self service to drop-off / pickup your luggage in the storage cupboard. Perhaps a tagging system would be better.

In a nutshell: would visit again.

Dear Guest, Thank you for taking the time to review your recent stay at Palms City Resort. I am glad that you found the resorts location, cleanliness and facilities all to your expectations. I do apologise for the inconvenience of being woken by street noise and a guest arriving late in the night. We do attempt to allocate rooms close to reception if we are informed that the guest is a late arrival to avoid the need for them to be wandering throughout the resort late at night (both for the convenience of the arriving guest and the comfort of our inhouse guests). The self service luggage storage facility has not presented to be a security issue in the 5 years I have managed the property. We have looked at implementing a tagging system in the past however given the extra staffing required to implement such a procedure (particularly in the peak seasons) we would no longer be able to offer the facility free of charge. We also are happy to take items of value (such as laptops, handbags) and store them behind reception. Once again thank you for your review and we look forward to welcoming you back to the resort.

Palms City lies within walking distance to the city centre, yet is quiet (unlike Mitchell Street, which is more of a party place). Had a nice doubleroom, small but clean bathroom and free parking. Swimming pool was nice!

We stayed for 11 nights in this tropical oasis and enjoyed it immensely. Location is great - handy to restaurants, tourist attactions, Information centre etc. Had to be quick with the limited car parking area but heaps of parks out on the Esplanade. Quiet area with good lighting. The staff are friendly and helpful, the room was larger than I expected & serviced daily. Kitchenette was ample for us......all I missed was a paring knife to peel my apple!! Have highly recommended Palm City Resort to my friends that are planning a stay in Darwin.

Room Tip: I was shown the inside of Bungalow unit....would have been too small for us but cosy for romantic co...

Really really really pleased! I was recommended this by the Flight Center. I had my own self contained cabin hidden amongst the tropical plants/trees. Very very clean. The staff are all extremely friendly and helpful in booking tours. Lovely pool to cool off in during the midday heat. Strongly recommend!!!! Hotel is central to everything you need and the madness of Mitchell Street but gives you the peaceful, quite surrounding to retreat to right on the Esplanade.

Room Tip: Select one of the self contained cabins.

We had a superior motel room for our 4-nite stay and were very happy with our accommodation. We were given an upstairs room with its own balcony and small kitchenette. Our room was very clean and comfortable, and was cleaned daily. The housekeeping staff we saw around the resort were very friendly and always said hello or had a quick chat whenever we passed by. The resort is in a great location close to everything in Darwin CBD and directly opposite the Esplanade parklands. There is limited off-street parking but we had no problems finding a space each day during our stay. Darwin is an expensive city for holidays but I think this resort offers particularly good value.

The only fault (and it's very minor) is that the pool hours were listed as 6am to 10pm. However, we found that the pool was closed around 8am every morning for cleaning. This just happened to be around the time our toddler wanted to go for his after-breakfast swim, so it was a slight inconvenience to have to wait another 30-45 minutes. But on the upside, the pool was always spotlessly clean and lovely to swim in!

Dear Guest, Thank you for taking the time to review your recent stay at Palms City Resort and all your positive comments regarding the property and the team. It sounds as though you experienced the property exactly the way it was designed to be experienced. As you have expressed the resorts location is perfect for business or leisure but it definitely has the tropical feel which does set it apart from some of the other inner city hotels. I do appreciate your slight inconvenience regarding the wait for our pool to be cleaned (I also have a toddler) however this time of day has seemed to be the most convenient for the majority of our guests for this daily procedure. I have passed all your comments on to my team – we all look forward to welcoming you back to the resort!

Stayed 7 nights in a villa, cleaning leaves a lot to be desired overhead fan was very dirty and dust was on the walls. Venue is well situated in great tropical setting but the service in the Breafast room let down the establishment, one morning they ran out of toast (supermarket was 5 mins away), the morning of departure on the Ghan they ran out of eggs as this is a weekly event you would think it would be better planned. Front desk staff were very helpful but the basics of an accomodation facility were lacking. Would not stay there again as it was not value for money.

Room Tip: Would recommend the Villas

Dear Guest,
Thank you for taking the time to review your recent stay at Palms City Resort. I am disappointed that you did not find the cleaning of your villa to an appropriate standard and I will be following this up. Our guest comment cards, other reviews and recent AAA assessment reflect that our cleaning is of a particularly high standard however from your comments something has gone a miss during the servicing of your villa. I’m not sure if you mentioned it to reception during your stay as I have no record of such an issue raised? I am familiar with the day the kitchen ran out of eggs (as it is only happened twice in 5 years). This was due to a supplier not delivering the order on time. They had been contacted several times and each time it was promised that they were only 5 minutes away therefore a staff member was not sent to the supermarket. I do apologise for the inconvenience and anyone who had purchased breakfast that day was offered a reduction in the cost of breakfast. You are correct that we do know ahead of time the Ghan check out days as we have been accommodating Ghan passengers for the last 9 years and this had never been an issue before. I appreciate that you did not feel you got value for money however the vast majority of feedback also indicates that as the only 3.5 star property located in Darwin’s CBD our rates are extremely competitive (this is one on the many reasons we have so many Ghan passengers stay with us). I apologise again for not meeting your expectations on this occasion and assure you that the issues raised in your review are not common practice at all.
