I agree with all the other reviews. This is a small but lively restaurant which has a very busy lunch time trade and this is why: Ammas has the friendliest staff, the most delicious food, and is reasonably priced.

We sought out this restaurant based on a recommendation in an airline magazine---not sure if it was United Airlines, Qantas or Virgin Air (sorry!) --- Were they ever right! Huge portions of delicious seasoned Sri Lankan dishes for very reasonable prices. The restaurant is casual and service is very cheerful and friendly. The article recommended the mango lassa---yum! If you enjoy Indian or Indonesian cuisine, you should try this place!

Found this fabulous restaurant by accident whilst walking through the Vic arcade.
My Sri Lankan husband and I absolutely enjoyed the string hoppers and all you can eat buffet of a nice selection of Sri Lankan curries. The entree and deserts are served at your table. There is a choice out of three deserts. The staff are very friendly.

This place has only been open for six months or so, but you know it is special when you see Sri Lankans eating there ALL THE TIME! The food is superb, the owner, Sunali, is just a world of smiles and nothing is too difficult. This is not a fancy high end restaurant. It is an unpretentious nook opposite the Vic Hotel in the Vic arcade and pretty much caters to the lunch time crowd. What makes it stand out however is that very special home made Sri Lankan cooking. If string hoppers, pol sambal, okra and egg plant curries mean something to you, then you know what I am talking about. In some ways it pains me to write this review because it may become a victim of its success. Hopefully it doesn't. As they say in the business..."Please enjoy!"
