Owner description: The Deckchair Cinema is THE outdoor cinema on Darwin's Waterfront. We are a fully indepedent movie theatre operated by the Darwin Film Society, established in 1954, to give Darwin audiences unseen movies on the big screen. The Deckchair Cinema is located on Darwin's Waterfront (Jervois Road), and is open 7 nights a week from mid April to mid November. Gates open nightly at 6.30pm so you can enjoy a tropical sunset over Darwin Harbour before the 7.30pm screening. Our program is a diverse range of Australian, popular, family, foreign and classic films. Come down early, enjoy a refreshing beverage from our fully licensed kiosk or feast your taste buds on a hot meal from one of our food vendors. No BYO alcohol. We are easily accessible via a well-lit picturesque walkway from the City Esplanade and there is plenty of parking and bike racks available on site.

“Too Cute”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 24, 2013

As a family we loved it awesome little venue,so friendly food yummy, drinks cold & a great selection!

Only downside we had a couple behind us waiting for the next movie who clearly had no interest in the kids movie(why would they) that was diisapointing as plenty of area that they could of enjoyed each others company, but hey you get that.
You should go not many outdoor viewing around Australia anymore.

“Quartet in the Open Air”

Comfy deck chairs; take your own picnic; listen to the birds roosting. Enjoy the experience on a warm, dry, evening. We saw Quartet - an old people's home with some great actors: light and easy and just right.

“Interesting and different”

What an interesting idea and concept. Obviously you need to choose a movie that suits and a time that matches. Bring insect repellent and food is available.

“Excellent. They thought of everything!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 20, 2013

Amazing! Arrived at the venue just before sunset and got to see the fabulous colours fade between the trees. Comfy deckchairs and a big box of cushions which we could help ourselves to! Also tea and coffee and insect repellent available. And last but definitely not least, the food - there was a selection of beautiful home cooked food (curries, potato bake, stews) where you could purchase a container and have it filled with whatever you like.

As we left, we saw a blackboard where people were asked to write the name of the place that they had travelled from. Turns out our fellow cinema goers were from all over the world - Toulouse, Timor, even Cockle Creek in Tasmania! They really did think of everything.
