Owner description: The Deckchair Cinema is THE outdoor cinema on Darwin's Waterfront. We are a fully indepedent movie theatre operated by the Darwin Film Society, established in 1954, to give Darwin audiences unseen movies on the big screen. The Deckchair Cinema is located on Darwin's Waterfront (Jervois Road), and is open 7 nights a week from mid April to mid November. Gates open nightly at 6.30pm so you can enjoy a tropical sunset over Darwin Harbour before the 7.30pm screening. Our program is a diverse range of Australian, popular, family, foreign and classic films. Come down early, enjoy a refreshing beverage from our fully licensed kiosk or feast your taste buds on a hot meal from one of our food vendors. No BYO alcohol. We are easily accessible via a well-lit picturesque walkway from the City Esplanade and there is plenty of parking and bike racks available on site.

“Darwin Deckchair Cinema”
Reviewed November 18, 2012

When I heard about this place, I knew I just had to be there. Australia is famous for it's 'getting close to nature' ethos, and this is a very clever idea. A large screen, a projector, and a collection of deckchairs, and a sky full of stars. It wasn't until my last night in Darwin that I got a chace to go. The film I seen was rubbish, but that's no fault of the Cinema. The chairs were comfortable, the picture and sound quality were excellent, the alcohol was cheap and there was free water. Enjoyed it very much.

“Fantastic concept and worth a visit”
Reviewed November 17, 2012 via mobile

Attended here 17/11/12 for a Friday night 1930 session.

$15 admission for each adult, baine marie served hot meals $10-13 and alcohol also available. You can bring your own food but not alcohol, get in early to get a table and chairs up the back or look forward to relaxing in a deck chair. Word of warning, those who arrived late struggled to find a spot to sit and it is closed from November to unsure when due to wet season.

“A got to go to for Darwin!”
Reviewed November 13, 2012

Great atmosphere, yummy food and alcoholic drinks available! So unique, there is nothing like this back home in the UK...probably as because of the weather. You'll enjoy any movie you watch here, even if they chose to show a boring one (which they never do)!

“A unique movie theatre”
Reviewed November 11, 2012

Very quaint, get there early for a good spot and cushions as the deck chairs are not comfy after an hour or so. Food looked good, but I could not eat there as I have a chilli allergy... They supply aero garden, so whack it on. It was a lovely experience......

“Great place to watch a movie”
Reviewed November 10, 2012

Deckchair Cinema is a really good place to watch the movie that you like. You can also buy some food and drinks but you have to be quick because they will run out.
