First attempt was thwarted by a tropical downpour resulting in market being closed down but we were lucky enough to get some delicious Vietnamese food and shelter in their stall to watch the downpour. Lost my shoe on the way out in the knee deep water and husband thought it was so funny watching me retrieve.

Went back on the Sunday evening with glorious weather, again delicious Vietnamese food and lovely entertainers. Market stalls were fairly unremarkable and a little disappointing but the food and entertainment was good. Had been there 20 years ago and stalls were fabulous, not sure where they have all gone??

Monte Dwyer was selling his books so I dropped by and picked up a couple of extra ones to read during our visit to Darwin. Monte was the weatherman from Today show and now travels the country writing books, making movies etc in his trusty Claude (van).

Spend a lazy afternoon wandering around the market on a Thursday or Sunday afternoon when in Darwin. You stroll around enjoying the tastes of an amazing array of food while looking at all the crafts on sale, then wander down to the beach to watch a great sunset. Worth a visit when in town.

Love these markets and get withdrawl for them every couple fo years. So many choices of food and drinks. My favourite is green paw paw salad, stuffed chicken wings and paw paw smoothie. Unfortunately we ahd to cut our last visit short as the wet season decided to begin without notice!

Arrived to the lovely music at the entrance, but seems that was the only music played that night. The food lane has an extensive selection, and it all looked pretty good. What I had was really good.
The shopping however was disappointing - loads of cheap gimmicky rubbish, with a smattering of local artists (aboriginal paintings - the same price as in the galleries in Smith St Mall, a pencil artist selling originals and prints, wildflower cameos, the didgeridoo, etc stall). Another good stall was the one selling zebra stone. Otherwise there were plastic toys, t-shirts, 'silver' jewellery, hats (a stall at the far end had a good selection), neon posters on black flocked backgrounds (!), soaps and a lot of Indonesian items.
I had an enjoyable enough night - sunset on the beach was beautiful - but wished there had been a bit better selection of goods.
