“MOM ALL THE WAY!!”
Reviewed September 18, 2012 via mobile

I stayed here for 4 months and the staff and hostel were brilliant. Had amazing time here this hostel in area has the right mix of party and being chilled out too. hostel price according to price range up in Darwin as it more expensive to live in Darwin specially if you have come from somewhere else in Australia 1st. If you listen to the people who said "there wouldn't return again" then the only reason is you shouldn't be staying in hostels SIMPLE!! Pay for a hotel and get private room!! I was in a 6 bed dorm and we all have different working times days off you have to except it and deal with it!!

Only small problems was size of beds quite small for someone over 6 ft and also I would say bigger kitchen area needed with ovens too.

But apart from that MOM ALL THE WAY!!!!!!

We booked this hostel because of location and on some recommendations. It did the job, possibly more pricy because of the location as we have stayed in better places for better prices. The rooms were fairly clean as we're the bathrooms, kitchens etc. it's more of a 'party' hostel and as a result we had to walk through the drinking area to get to our room it was also a bit noisy when trying to sleep as people were drunk. Non of this would have been a problem if I were with friends however I was with my girlfriend so possibly not the best place for couple who want a slightly quieter place to stay. Overall though for a good time on your own or with friends this is ideal.

This place was absolutely fantstic. We got given free internet vouchers on arrival, had a fantastic time at the bar with an absolutely fantstic group of people! the staff were so so soooo helpful and went out of their way to give us ahand with anything!
We loved the atmosphere - EVERYTHING!
It's located right in the middle of Darwin so it's great and it's just across the road from the supermarket. The showers and bathrooms were clean and the rooms were huge.
this is one of the best places I have ever stayed!!

Room Tip: The first floor has direct access to the bar...

Stayed here for a couple of days in May so dry season and so was pretty expensive everywhere in Darwin. We stayed in a six bed dorm with a decent set of people, never had any issues although they slept a lot upto them there holidays. Fantastic location pool are really good, bar was great with good beer deals. Staff were so lovely the nicest iv ever come across in hostels. The room was clean the bathrooms were clean, the kitchen seemed great but we never used it. It's noisy around the whole of Darwin it's a complete party town but we had a decent sleep. No complaints here would stay again!

The Melaleuca was the first hostel I stayed in when I arrived in Australia and I met some great people and I disagree completley with another reviewer, it very much IS a party hostel, they have their own bar for a start lol.

The rooms are not very good tbh, loud raucous doors, poor space/lockers, plastic covered mattresses, and air con that in my room spat disgusting water droplets out and was as noisy as a boeing aircraft. In fact, It's so so for value, when I first got there a weekly rate was $175 which was about the upper limit but this nudged up as time went on.

If you have a full time job in Darwin, and want some quality sleep, find another hostel as you will not get enough quality sleep IME, unless you are extremley lucky and have a gang of similar minded in a decent room. Toilets always busy and a mess especially on weekends.

Staff generally very good considering how insanley busy the place is, very patient though do not suffer abuse or fools gladly.

I wouldn't return here unless I could afford a private room.

The dorm rooms are really small and either freezing or boiling hot - no way of having a nice controlled temperature. The bunk beds are really squeaky and not very comfortable. The outdoor bar does pretty good happy hours with cheap jugs of beer. Though it's pretty expensive for $31 a night in a 6 bed dorm.
