“A must do when in Darwin”
Reviewed September 2, 2014

It is an extremely varied museum that is small enough to get around without being overwhelmed, yet has so much to grab your attention. Don't miss the boat display or the upstairs art gallery (if there is a current exhibition). Go!

“Interesting Day Spot”

We had a lovely time walking around the museum. It had some great exhibits of the cyclone and of animals that use to walk the land.

“A view of The Territory's history.”
Reviewed September 1, 2014

Museums exist to display an area's history. This one is no exception.
I knew about Cyclone Tracy, but the display gave me a greater understanding of how terrifying it must have been. People talk about the Dark Room. One has to be in there to understand something of the experience of those who lived through it.
The area containing Aboriginal history, culture and arts was well set out. It helps give a greater understanding of how they lived.
My regret was that I did not have time to see the greater part of the museum. I had only time for a quick walk past Sweetheart ( the 5.1 metre crocodile), the beautiful birds, the insects and all the other exhibits.

Great museum, free entry, and a must to see Sweetheart the Crocodile, lovely bird collection amongst other items, and the Cyclone Tracey exhibit is excellent. Indigenous works of art also excellent.
