Owner description: The fierce Cyclone Tracey that devastated Darwin in 1974 is chillingly re-enacted inside this museum's "Black Room." Situated in a tropical garden, the museum also houses Aboriginal, Southeast Asian and Oceanic art.

“NICE LITTLE MUSEUM”

Interesting place to spend an hour or two while in Darwin. It has an exhibit about Cyclone Tracy which hit Darwin in 1974 which was interesting. Also some natural history exhibits.

“Short stay combining business and pleasure”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 16, 2014

Visited the museum and art gallery whilst on a recent stay and I would have to say that after visiting the Cyclone Tracy exhibit I came away in awe of what happened to the town. Whilst not a huge museum or art gallery it certainly is a worthwhile visit whilst in Darwin

The museum is large, airy and well airconditioned! The special display on Cyclone Tracy was informative and unique. It was refreshing to go to an activity that was for free. Highly recommended.

“Interesting Museum”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 7, 2014

An interesting museum with a wonderful collection of Aboriginal Art, fossils, natural history, all beautifully documented and explained. There is a room giving the impression of Cyclone Tracy and photos and documentation of the destruction of Darwin at the time. It is well worth the visit. There is also a very good Museum shop and an excellent café with a water view at the front of the museum.

“Wonderful museum”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 4, 2014

What a joy this museum was to visit. Small but full of so many interesting exhibits. I had been told by a friend that I had to see Sweetheart. Some croc! Also, the Cyclone Tracy exhibit which was excellent. It brought back rather too many memories of tornados back home! There was a magnificent exhibit of modern aboriginal art which I loved. Definitely worth a visit.
