Visited here when staying in Darwin in July. Very interesting exhibits, including a good representation of Darwin's colourful past. First visit we didn't realise that there was a maritime section, it's a little hidden away, despite the fact that it is a large room. Be sure to locate it if visiting.

On my second visit I found the Museum & Art Gallery to be as good as ever. It has something for everyone. There is Natural History, Science & Marine life,Aboriginal Art & artifacts, Maritime collection, Bird & Butterfly exhibits, a section dedicated to Cyclone Tracy and an exhibit area of the Territory history in photos & artifacts. Plus a stuffed Crocodile named "Sweetheart" all 5+ m of her, who terrorised fishermen & other folk before her capture ! Also a Cafe & gift shop are also on hand and the entry is free ! Although donations are happily accepted, if in the Top End , don't miss this treat !

I had never heard of this museum and didn't have any expectations, and it was incredible!! Amazing photographic exhibit about the Northern Territory from 1911-1921, and powerfully moving and comprehensive exhibition about Cyclone Tracy, which devastated Darwin in 1974. I love photography and stumbled across more impressive photography here than I've been able to find in New York City! This doesn't even mention the impressive collections of Aboriginal art and a maritime museum with actual boats and their histories. I spent 3 hours here and could have spent 3 more. I cannot recommend it highly enough

This museum is great and full of history and art that wouldn't be seen anywhere else in Australia! After spending time in community, I enjoyed looking at Aboriginal history and artworks that were not tokenistic!

Great little museum. I love the art exhibitions, there is usually something special on display. Cyclone Tracey display is a great reminder of living in the territory .

Very enjoyable 2 hrs. Made easier by the Hop on / off bus. A must for visiting Southerners and overseas folk. Try to time it and the military museum around 11- 3:30 which gives you ample time as its the best to enjoy the A/c inside. I was more attracted by the museum.

Some wonderful exhibits. The bombing of Darwin, Cyclone Tracy exhibits very informative. The theatre reality showing of the bombing very sad but very real. The blacked out sound room experience of Cyclone Tracy felt so real. The art exhibits were amazing. Expect to spend quite some time there as so much to see.
